Don't Let Her Stay - 1/21

Check & Mate - 1/28
I'm assuming, for the top two, we'll have threads to chat in with the group? or should I make us a separate thread to buddy read in?
but for Check&Mate, it's a winner so will have it's own thread at some point. Is it okay if I make a buddy read thread for it now?
Yes, the first two will get a thread. Check and Mate will get a thread whenever it is scheduled. Looks fun!

we plan on reading Check & Mate on Jan 28th
am I okay to go ahead and make a buddy read thread for it?
Sorry, Trisha. I missed that bit of your question at first. I've asked the other mods what they think in the mod thread, but haven't heard back yet. We try not to have duplicate threads, but occasionally it does happen unintentionally due to the nominee group reads.
I'm going to say go ahead this time, but we mostly want to avoid doing that so that we can keep with the schedule and people join in the group reads when they happen. I will post a link to the group read in your buddy thread later and close the buddy read.

Vicki and I are actually reading it right now if you'd like to join us
it's here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We'd love anyone & everyone to join us!!

Is it okay if we make a thread in this group for it of do you want us to wait until we get to Don't Fear the Reaper (an actual 2023 nominee)?
Sorry, Trisha! I completely missed your above comment and just saw it now. You can definitely make a thread for Don't Fear the Reaper. We don't read all the nominees, just one from each genre in addition to the winners, and the horror poll has already passed, so we won't be reading that one as a group read.

Does anyone want to read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier? If you don’t know anything about it it’s a gothic mystery which is why I was thinking it might make a good October read. It is definitely an older book but well-renowned. A little known fact: it was also used as the key to a book code in World War II.
Let me know and hope you are having a lovely day!

A "buddy read" is when two or more people agree to read a book that isn't a scheduled group book of the month (and therefore not run by one of the group moderators) together.
The rules: You just need one other member to read the book with you. Then it's up to you to decide when and how. There are no restrictions on dates, how long it takes to read, or on how you discuss the book (you can have a set schedule, you can discuss as you read, or you can discuss at the end). It's all up to you! The only requirement is to use spoiler tags as needed so that other people don't accidentally read something before they're ready to.
What to do
Comment below which book you'd like to read and if someone(s) wants to join you, work out when you'd like to start.
Once agreed, start your own thread to discuss the book. You can do this by doing the following:
- Click on this link: Buddy Reads 2024
- Click on 'new topic' at the top right of the of the list
- Fill in the 'topic field' with Book Title and Start Date
- Type the book in 'this topic is about field' and select it from the list (This is optional, but helpful)
- Keep 'folder field' as Buddy Reads 2024
- Fill in the 'comment field' with details about your buddy read - e.g. what the book is, book summary, reading schedule (if any), etc. This field is required and you will not be able to create the thread without putting something in this first comment box.
