Summer Moffitt | 7 comments Here are some possible reads for this topic- I’d love to see others’ recommendations as well!!

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

How We Became Human by Joy Harjo

Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai* (a favorite of mine when I read it a few years back!)

I Am the Most Dangerous Thing by Candace Williams

God Themselves by Jai Nichelle

Side Notes from the Archivist by Anastacia-Renee

Lynn Meeuwissen | 2 comments I’m reading ‘Funeral Diva’ by Pamela Sneed for this prompt.

Jen (jenmcreads) | 4 comments I read two collections last year that I enjoyed and would work for this prompt:

The Wild Fox of Yemen, Threa Almontaser
She is Yemeni American and this collection is especially rich if you have some background in Arabic language, but that isn't a necessity

Black Girl, Call Home, Jasmine Mans
From a poet with a spoken word poet so that style definitely comes through in this collection.

I am reading Content Warning: Everything by Akwaeke Emezi for this prompt this month, and I may also have time to get to Water & Salt by Lena Khalaf Tuffaha

I saw a plantains and are becoming by Melania Luisa Marte recommended on TikTok and I had to read it for this prompt. It was such a good read. And to me it was very shocking that I actually liked it because usually I hate poetry but Melania made me enjoy every poem she wrote. My personal favorite out of the book was Name poem

Brittany | 1 comments I'm reading All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols. I absolutely love the art married with her poetry. I just discovered her while searching for a book to read for this first prompt.

I recommend Eastern Dragons Don't Breathe Fire by Phoenix Ning! I read it last year and loved it!

Ron | 10 comments If you're into Indigenous authors, I highly recommend anything written by Joy Harjo.

For this prompt I ended up reading her book: In Mad Love and War . I've read Joy's other work so compared to this one, I would give this book a 3-star.

Dilliemillie | 1 comments I haven't read either of these, but Black Queer Hoe and Soft Science both look really good.

Jordan (jmfez) | 7 comments I really loved Promises of Gold by Jose Olivarez. If this piece of poetry doesn’t fit in with your reading this month, it’d be a great selection for the translated book prompt.
