Reading 1001 discussion

1. TBR lists must be posted for the year by December 25. If you missed getting your list posted, you still can. Just complete your list omitting the months that have already been called.
2. You must read your T BR in the month that it is picked. January book cannot be started until January 1 and it must be finished by the end of the month to receive the points. If you miss a month you must start over in point counting.
3. Points received for completed books are;

1 point each for reading 1st and 2nd book
2 points each for 3rd and 4th book
3 points each for 5th and 6th book
4 points each for 7th and 8th book
5 points each for books 9-12

4. After June's book you are able to reset your list before the July book is called. It is the only time for a reset. If you accidentally read a book early your choice is to reread the book or to start over in the point counting.

I’ll be reading Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh. Nice fun start to the TBR year

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. My January pick is The Feast of the Goat by Vargas Llosa. I am starting the year off with a brutal dictator.

My January TBR is Notes from the Underground. That will pair nicely with Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris :)

My #11 is Interview with a Vampire. Dictators, Vile Bodies, Underground and Vampires, 2024 is starting off weirdly.

Number 11 for me is King Solomon's Mines by H. Rider Haggard. Looking forward to a fun adventure novel.

My 11 is We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Which is pretty cool, because I'm planning on re-reading 1984 soon, before reading Julia by Sandra Newman. So I'll get the full chain.

My #11 is A Farewell to Arms, which is a physical book I won’t get to until I return home late in the month. I have probably read it in my youth, but no memories!

I listened to this one early this year, and although it was brutal, I thought it was a great historical fiction. I used it for the #FoodAndLit challenge on Litsy and made braised goat for supper one night to go with my listening.

My number 11 book is The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.

My book for January is The Buddha of Suburbia, by Hanif Kureishi.

My book for January will be The Museum of Unconditional Surrender by Dubravka Ugresic. I've put this on so many plans and never reached it, so I'll be glad to finally get to it!

Oops you are right I saw it on Pamela's 2023 list when I was looking for ideas for my new list.

I'm pretty sure it's on the Guardian 1000 list. It's not on any of the 1001-lists I keep track of (but it might be on one).

Nice! 24 is What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt.
It has been on my list for a few years without getting picked and I almost removed it so I could try to just read it anyway.

My #24 is Amsterdam by Ian McEwan. He has a few on the list that I haven’t read yet so it will be good to pick this one up.

My #24 is La Brava by Elmore Leonard one of my favoriite authors.

My 24 is Far From the Maddening Crowd - Hardy

24. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.

#24 is The Collector for me. I have never read anything by Fowles.

I have A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift.

7 is A Lear of the Steppes by Turgenev. And it only now occurs to me that I have never read King Lear.

My #7 is A Pale View of Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro.

My #7 is Three Lives by Gertrude Stein, which is serendipitous because I just purchased a used copy of the Norton Critical Edition.

My #7 is Hard Times been a while since I have read any Dickens.

My #7 is On the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft

Max Havelaar; or The Coffee Sales of the Netherlands Trading Company by Multatuli. I have had this book on my shelf for quite some time so I am looking forward to it.

My #7 Is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which should be a nice romp

My #7 is The Circle. Looking forward to something comparatively modern!

My number 7 is a book that’s only on the Norwegian list, Lillelord. I have heard it’s very good, so looking forward to it. But first, still have a couple of audio hours left of my February book.

I have Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino for number 7.
