HELPFUL LINKS AND TOOLS
📌 UNO Rules and Announcements
📌 arbookfind.com, for checking the word count on children's books: https://www.arbookfind.com/UserType.a...
📌Children's Books That Have Already Been Checked
📌Yellow Covers
📌Blue Covers
📌Green Covers
📌Red Covers
Important note:
Some books on the color cover list may not seem like the color cover because GR shows the default version, but there may be a specific shelved version that is the actual color. The version you read is what you should shelve, and is what counts, for UNO. Additionally, the color shelves are put together by players, so always double check that your book actually qualifies, because these lists are not mod-approved.

Important rules to remember
🔹 Only books started after the challenge starts can count for this challenge.
🔹 All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your Uno shelf.
🔹 If you're unsure if a cover falls under a certain color, then ask here and we can talk it over as a group. If we can't come to a decision, I will take it to the captains group.
🔹 Color cards must fit requirements of both the corresponding number and >50% color cover.
🔹 Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books, Graphic Novels, Manga, Cook Books, Plays and Poetry books can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com or more than 3 hours of audio using a reputable website (e.g. audible, overdrive). Children's books checked in previous years can be seen on this shelf uno-childrens
🔹 You must check in at least once a week so I know you’re still actively participating. You can post a book, or if you haven’t finished one, just stop by here and say hi :)
🔹 Have fun!! It's a social challenge, so can get chatty. And while we do want points and want to finish all our cards, this isn't supposed to be a competitive challenge. So enjoy your reading!
🔹 Other info
When it comes to cards, I prefer to just read and fill in what is needed rather than "claiming" cards (since sometimes cards need to be shuffled around). However, when it comes to color cards, please do claim those so we know those are covered.

Welcome to the 10th Anniversary of UNO!!
Rules and useful links are posted above for your reference. Please feel welcome to ask questions at any time. I've sent out friend requests to everyone on the team that I have not played with before. There's a planning spreadsheet for our books. You can add books that you are planning to read for the round, or you can put it on after you've completed. The only cards we want to make sure we plan out beforehand are the color cards so those will be at the top of each spreadsheet to make it easier to see that we've completed them!
If you're using the planning spreadsheet, please fill out each line with as much info as possible. Having all the possible the options allows us to move books around to make sure everyone's books count! For "reverse" the reason just has to be the name of the team member who read it.
If you don't like using spreadsheets, you can just make a post in the group. Please include the link to the edition you read, the date finished, all the options it works for, and how it fits for each option. If easier, you can use this format:
Book:
Date Read:
Color?:
What/How it fits:
YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO ONE WAY. You do not have to do both a post and the spreadsheet, I just know not everyone enjoys spreadsheets. Everyone does needs to make sure that all books are on their designated UNO shelf and has a date read marked.
Please take the time to introduce yourself! Here's some questions you can answer (but feel free to say whatever you'd like)
-General about you (if you're uncomfortable sharing too much information, don't worry!)
-Have you played UNO before? If so, what's your favorite part?
-What's your most anticipated release of 2024? Your favorite book from 2023?
-What book do you plan on being your first for the first round of UNO?
-We have 13 Color cards (including WD4) for round 1, so if you have any color books planned for February, the sooner you can let us know the better :)

I read mostly fantasy, science fiction, and mystery genres but have been known to branch out into other genres as well.
My favorite new book of 2023:

In 2024 I'm looking forward to:

Uno shelf: uno-2024

I love that UNO encourages me to push myself to get my books read, and I am currently trying to finish a few before the challenge starts. My shelf is UNO 2024
I do a lot of my checking in from my phone, but I check in on the laptop a few times a week. It's much easier to add to spreadsheets from the laptop than from the phone, so I tend to wait to do that.
I will be taking a look later to decide what books I will be starting with. I tend to read books for other things, such as bookclub and for reviews, so not everything I read goes toward UNO, which is why I kept my monthly book goal low for this challenge. Graphic Novels and kids books don't count for here, but they are still on my list of things for me to read monthly.
I don't have any anticipated books for the year, but I do regularly look at what is new and what I would eventually like to read. I get a lot of my books from the library, so I have learned to be patient with new releases.
I look forward to getting to know everyone over the next couple months. I have sent friend requests to those of you that I hadn't met before.

UNO encourages me to read more, get connected to people, and get out of the box with things I would not pick up.
In advance, I need to inform you that I will be away on holiday for the first 22 days of February, so I will need your help filling out the form for me as I won't have my laptop with me. I have decided I won't bring with me anything that resembles my work. And talking about work, I am a health carer. I love caring for people, and I think I am a fantastic and caring person; what can I say?
My shelf is 2024-unoshelf and my favorite books in 2023 were: Verity, Home Fire, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
My favourite genres are Historical Fiction, Dystopic, and Romance, but so far, I haven't decided what to add to the UNO list. I am reading Glow: Five Steps to Create the Life You Dream About a present from a dear friend of mine.

I live in an area where it is generally 55F to 80F, year-round. So, we don't have air conditioners in homes, and we usually don't need our heaters. So this is newish for us. Thankfully, I get my daughter's dog at night. She's an excellent foot warmer.

I am married and have a 26 year old daughter. I also have a 15 year old Westie and 3 cats (all rescues).
I will read just about anything but I’m a fan of psychological thrillers, mystery and police procedurals, horror and Nordic noir.
This is my 5th year playing UNO and I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better!

Thank you Deanna! I think we were in the same group last year. I am glad to be back; I felt that the group we were part of put much less pressure on me. I consider myself a slow reader, but sometimes I can make it to 5 books a month, however, 3/4 are my average.

Uno-2024
I'm Kira. I live in Alberta, Canada. The weather has been miserable here. -38 over the weekend. Silver lining is that I have 2 giant dogs (St. Bernard and a Great Dane) that like to cuddle, so it was a good weekend to stay in bed with them and a book.
Nice to see some other peeps in healthcare and lots of pet owners. I'm typically run off my feet working as a vet during the day, but check in most nights.
This will be my 3rd round of Uno. I like having prompts to help choose my book and the motivation to read more. I had quite a slump the second half of last year and am looking forward to getting back to normal in 2024. 95% of my reading is romance. I read the occasional general fiction or thriller - mostly just so I can say I tried it or avoid FOMO.
I'm a mood reader, so don't really plan in advance. I am anxiously awaiting this one though:

My favourite 2023 reads were series:
Chestnut Springs by Elsie Silver
The Guild by Tate James
The duet narration on all of Tate James' audiobooks is my favourite. The best.

I have access to the spreadsheet, but haven't added much to it, other than Carrie's claim to the Red 6 category.

I got the same.

I envision a book on a therapy couch. That reminds me of an event that is going to happen here - "Wine and book tasting."

😂 - Had to look it up - here it is: the job is to explore your relationship with books and the issues that are pressing on you (ranging from grief or a job change, to a desire to find more meaning in your life) and then prescribe a list of books that will enrich and inspire you, and speak to your special problems.

I'm also a family restaurant owner! That was a fun little quiz.
