Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Seeing 2023 has been the year of generative AI.. I asked the robot to write my introduction as a poem. Here it is 😊

I'm Karen, a UNO maestro, cards in hand,
A reading challenge led to a game so grand.
For a decade, I've played with friends so dear,
Creating fun moments, year after year.

In the world of books, my interests wide,
All genres explored, with nothing to hide.
Except for horror, it sends chills down my spine,
In other tales and stories, I truly shine.

Now, in 2024, my excitement soars high,
For Red Side Story a sequel in the sky.
A decade in the making, it's finally here,
The pages await, bringing joy and cheer.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 1155 comments Hi I am Marie - I am from The UK and retired . I have done the UNO challenge several times and really enjoy it

I read from lots of different genres but Mystery thrillers are probably my fave - waiting with bated breath for Random in Death

message 13: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments I am afraid my prose will be super underwhelming after such a rhyming and lyrical intro, but here goes 😉

I am Melinda and UNO got me addicted to team challenges back in 2017. This will be my 8th, amazing how time flies. 😊

Apart from horror, I am willing to give a try to most genres. In general I love the classics, fantasy, history, biographies and romance.

Books I looking forward to read in 2024:
Bookshops & Bonedust
King Hereafter
Niccolò Rising
Salt & Broom

message 15: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Yaay one of my favourite challenges!!

First played UNO in 2018 and still hoard colour covers for when it is time to play again.

I enjoy a variety of genres, from fantasy to thrillers and historical fiction. Very partial to a fairy tale retelling

Books I can't wait to read from my TBR in 2024 are:

Six Crimson Cranes
A Study in Drowning
Gideon the Ninth
The rest of the Ember in the Ashes series!

Laura | 1144 comments Looking forward to Uno again! No idea what I’ll read in 2024, but I’m in the middle of The Christmas Murder Game by Alexandra Benedict

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Oooh, UNO. Let the colour cover hoarding begin!

I'm looking forward to this one this year.. Empire of the Damned (Empire of the Vampire, #2) by Jay Kristoff

and this one..The Gathering Storm: Morland Dynasty #36: the new book in the beloved historical series. It's been 11 years since the last book.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 916 comments Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "Seeing 2023 has been the year of generative AI.. I asked the robot to write my introduction as a poem. Here it is 😊"

I loved this so much I decided to try it myself. Here is my poem! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣

In a world of cards, where colors blend,
I'm Ashley, the UNO friend.
Years of play, strategy refined,
A game of wits, laughter intertwined.

Draw twos and skips, reverses too,
In UNO's dance, the deck we'll strew.
A seasoned player, joy on display,
In every match, I find my way.

But beyond the cards, in realms of ink,
I'm a reader, let the pages sync.
Genres diverse, a literary spree,
Books are my world, my cup of tea.

From mysteries to fantasies wild,
I explore each tale, like a curious child.
The written word, a magic wand,
In every story, a bond beyond.

So gather 'round the UNO deck,
Or share a book, what the pages reflect.
I'm Ashley, the player, the reader in tow,
Let's embark on adventures, let's let stories flow.

message 20: by Elli (new)

Elli | 177 comments Oh I love this way of introduction! 🥰
Here's mine~

In a world of words where stories unfold,
I'm Elli, a tale waiting to be told.

In the dance of days, an ageless soul,
A symphony of dreams, an ever-growing TBR.

With restless fingers and a mind that roams,
I carve my path through the poems and tomes.

In the quiet of dusk or the dawn's first light,
You'll find me dreaming, taking flight.

A avid reader of fantasy, a seeker of glee,
Unraveling life's sweet mystery.

Through laughter and tears, and moments untold,
I'm Elli, a spirit, both young and bold.

So let's share a verse or two, you and I,
In this grand narrative, under the same sky.

Melindam | 4427 comments OMG, loving these.

Got so inspired that I came up with a lame Limerick of my own. ;)
(will try an ai version when I get the chance)

There was a woman from Hungary who loved reading,
who couldn't resist the challenge when UNO came calling.
She found new genres and friends
and wishes it never ends,
though colour covers in her head just wouldn't stop reeling.

Gustaf | 553 comments I could not, not write a poem as my introduction so here we go:

In this challenge of words, where pages come alive
I join this game of Uno, ready to thrive
With each card we draw, a new story unfolds
As we embark on this journey, together we'll behold

I'm Gustaf, a book lover through and through
Lost in the realms of fiction, where dreams come true
From Northern Europe's lands where, I call home
I seek stories of love, where heart's freely roam.

As part of a team, we'll conquer each round
With books as our allies, knowledge to astound
Let's flip through the chapters, turn the pages with glee
Together we'll triumph, in this reading spree

Anyway, I can't wait! 😅

message 40: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 55 comments What fun....Here is my turn with AI

In a realm where tales entwine,
Rosina, known as Zina, shines,
Her UNO cards, a playful dance,
Experience tons, a wild expanse.

Through mystery and thriller lands,
Her favorite genres, life's shifting sands,
A connoisseur of enigmatic lore,
In literature's embrace, she'll explore.

In pages penned by Stephen's might,
King of shadows, weaving fright,
A labyrinth of words, a chilling art,
Zina's heart, a captive part.

Agatha's tales, a cunning maze,
In Christie's web, intrigue ablaze,
Whodunits whisper, secrets unfold,
A symphony of mysteries, stories untold.

In UNO rounds and paperback bends,
Zina's world, where fascination transcends,
A player in games, a reader of scrolls,
In the universe of words, her spirit strolls.

Through the realms of ink and paper,
Zina, the seeker, the word shaper,
In favorite genres, her soul takes flight,
A literary journey, both day and night.

message 41: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'm not sure I've figured out the right prompts, but this isn't bad.

In twilight's hush, where shadows dance and play,
Sophie settles in, with book in hand, each day.
UNO's pages, filled with wonder and delight,
Beckon her to read, and keep her up all night.

With every turn, her mind takes flight,
In worlds of magic, where heroes unite.
The words, a symphony of sound and sight,
In UNO, her heart finds endless delight.

In dreams, she soars on dragon's wings,
With unicorns and fairies, her heart sings.
The adventures never end, the tales never fade,
In UNO, Sophie's imagination is made.

So let her read, and read, and read some more,
For in UNO's pages, her heart finds its score.
And when the night is over, and the sun begins to rise,
Sophie's love for UNO will never die.

message 43: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Sign ups will open up within the next few days!

In the meantime....

Tips to prepare for sign up

* Think about how many books you can read in a month.
There is no benefit in UNO to under-estimate because each team has a fixed number of books to read each month. It is best to be as accurate as you can so that your team doesn't finish the month early and then is bored for a week!. Have a look at what you read over the last 3 months, or for previous players what you read over last UNO. We need a whole number. If you give a range (e.g. 6-10) we will arbitrarily change it to a whole number.

* Do you want to be in a "chatty" team?
Consider your interaction on Goodreads. Do you want to log in at least every other day? If so you may want to select your preference for a "chatty team".
If you can only commit to checking the team once per week, a chatty team is not for you.
If you don't think you can make it onto Goodreads once per week (even if you haven't read anything) then UNO is not for you.

* Set up your UNO Shelf.
This helps your team captains check your books, and is also quite cool later when you want to see what you have read in UNO over the years. Goodreads help explains how to add a new shelf if you haven't done it before here

YOUR USER NAME IS VERY IMPORTANT
every year we have sign-ups that don't get this right. If you do not enter it correctly, we can not find you, which means you won't be placed on a team.

To find your user name:,
1. go to the desktop version of Goodreads. This means use a web browser on your tablet/phone/computer to go to www.goodreads.com
2. (sign in if required) Look at the top right hand side and you will see the far right circle that is your profile picture. Click on it, and then select "profile"
3. What you now see in the URL bar is not www.goodeads.com but instead your profile name. For example, this Pixie account shows www.goodreads.com/user/show/52624155-...
This means my user name is 52624155-uno-pixie
4. In the sign up form you will be asked to enter the number and the name separately (this helps with our formulas and to make sure people enter this information correctly). So my number would be 52624155 and my name would be uno-pixie
