I love to read at night when the business of the day is behind me. Even though I know I'll regret it the next morning, I'm reluctant to close my book, shut off the light, and simply go to sleep. A page-turner like ADoW makes it almost impossible, but re-reading it with all of you allows me to enjoy the story at a more leisurely pace. What kind of reader are you: compulsive, measured, or somewhere between?

Ryan (rda1025) | 8 comments I am a reader who reads whenever there is time!! This is why I love to have my latest book on my kindle and on my kindle app on my phone so I can read at all times!!

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments I, too read all the time. My problem is that I have a book going on my Kindle (so I can read in bed without bothering my husband), a regular book (just started Shadow of Night for the second time) and usually an audio book for the car. I guess I'm compulsive!

Lisa L-B | 14 comments Most of my leisurely reading happens by audiobook. This allows me to enjoy books during my long commute or while doing household chores. However, for really good books, like the ADOW series, I also purchase the digital copies so I can read whenever I have a chance.

Lisa | 26 comments I read whenever I can, not nearly as much as I want to though! I LOVE my Kindle- live out in the country so going to bookstore is challenging. I've never done audiobooks. I love to actually read but I may look into it due to the amount of time I'm in the car.

Eleanor St Clair | 4 comments I am the same as Barbara, I have my ordinary book, a Kindle book, an audio book plus the book I have to read for my book club. This unfortunately can lead to one book being neglected during particularly busy weeks, but if a story is completely riveting, I often stay up at night to finish it! At three o clock in the morning when I have five chapters left, I just can't seem to bring myself to care that much about the next day!!

Adean (alfy35) | 6 comments I love to read along with the feel of a book in my hand, swore I would never have an e-reader. I read ADoW in hard back, when it first came out. I bought an e-reader when I went on vacation, and now read most books from digital libraries. Have all three books in digital for my Nook, but also have them in hard back, though the last two are in pristine condition read only once by a friend. I also have all three downloaded to my MP player so I can listen while on the computer but mostly on the portable player, while at the gym or outside walking, even when mowing the lawn. I would only listen while doing some form of exercise, so I made sure to get to the gym, especially when a favorite part was on. It was a great incentive to work out. So I reread and re-listen to the books multiple times.
A friend has the cd format and leaves them in the car, sometimes we just chose a CD on the whim and listen during our travels, Jennifer Ikeda does the audio and I just love her voice, she does a wonderful job as the narrator of the series.

Wendella Rhoads | 3 comments Hello All! I am on my 3rd re-read/listen to the books.
I read via Kindle (digital format)
and
Audible I use the Whysper Sync to go back and forth.

We're so fortunate that there are so many ways to enjoy books today! I have a question for those of you re-reading by CD or e-reader: Compared to a printed book, do you find it easier or more difficult to "put the book down"? I'm longing to go beyond the first ten chapters, but--since it's my sworn duty as your All Souls Archivist--I've been trying my best. Not quite sure I can make it to Tuesday before starting Chapter 11 though...

Personally for me, I listen while cocooning in for bedtime so I normally drift off after I have listened to a chapter. Then Read the chapter the next day to make sure I didn't miss anything important. So Easier would be the answer there.

Adean (alfy35) | 6 comments I find it harder to put down my Nook, it’s so convenient, and I now use purses that can accommodate it. I went on a job interview and placed the Nook in my portfolio pretending to go over my resume while in a waiting room with other candidates. In fact I was reading “The Book of Life” at the time; I was only there for the interview practice and not the actual job. When I go to pick up my “Take- Out” orders I take my Nook in case I have to wait. I also continue to read when in the examination room of my doctors and dentist, you know how then send you in from the Waiting Room but you’re still waiting.

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments I'm totally messing up the group read. I am already well into SON. These books are impossible to put down. I got nothing done this weekend. And, this is my second time...

I doubt very much you are alone, Barbara. Nothing on my weekend to-do list can compete with reading Deb!

Joanna | 13 comments Most of my book devouring happens through audiobook to and from work, and when i want to turn off the world and kids.I enjoy the escape a story gives me from the 'real world'. However I always have paper copies of my favorites to share with friends, and a digital copy on the kobo to read in the dark!

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 8 comments I have to have my Kindle with me at all times! It's as important to me as my phone. I would say that I'm measured, because I have to map out time to read once I get home, because I have two little ones that demand my attention. I'm forced to read at night once I put them to bed, at breaks at work, and in traffic

It's so impressive that you all still find the time to read--esp with kids to care for. I think that one of the greatest things one can pass on is a love of reading.

message 18: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 13 comments My kids both love reading. It is something both their schools encourage instead of homework.

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments What a great idea. Very impressive school.

message 20: by Alison (new)

Alison | 4 comments I'm so enjoying this group re-read! Just finished another book so it's great to fully immerse in ADOW. I'm actually reading (Nook app for iPad) and audio (on phone), depending on whether I'm indoors or out. Have a puppy that needs lots of walks, and it makes me much more patient to be out with her when I'm listening (and Jennifer Ikeda is a wonderful narrator), and read at my own pace in the evening. I have almost nothing on my iPad except e-reader apps and books - which is great for keeping the kids off it!

message 21: by Kristy (new)

Kristy | 9 comments I love reading in my office chair. It is really comfortable. I always have at least two books with me so if j ever get caught in a line or having to wait. Plus I have my iPad with me also, but don't like to read on that as much.

message 22: by Cherie M. (new)

Cherie M. | 2 comments I read every night before going to sleep. It can be a challenge getting enough sleep when the book is as good as those in this trilogy! I listen to an audio book when I am at the Y. Just finished the All Souls Trilogy. And I read like mad when I have vacation time. There is nothing better than reading on a balcony in the summer warmth listening to the waves hit the beach.

message 23: by Readsandeats (new)

Readsandeats | 54 comments I was reading ever night before I go to sleep but am now looking at this website and some of the book vlogs I follow on You Tube.

I read whenever I can and can be so involved in a book that I am totally oblivious to what is going on around me. I love reading in the garden in the summer when the sun is shinning and it warm, plus I love to read cuddled up on the sofa in my snuggle with a hot chocolate and a cookie in the winter - just wish I had a log fire!!

I do have a kindle but I use that when I am travelling, I much prefer the feel of a book in my hands.

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 51 comments I read every night before going to bed. Sometimes when the book is really good, I sacrifice sleep because I have a difficult time "pacing" myself, ;)

message 25: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbaradesimone51gmailcom) | 32 comments I'm having the same problem. I'm more than halfway through Shadow of Night and I forced myself to put it down. I'm getting the audio copy from the library since everyone says it is so good and I'm going to start over with that so I can stay with everyone else. What are we going to do when it's over???

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I've laughed to myself during our re-read over Diana's preference for tea over coffee. I certainly wouldn't be able to recover from my late nights of reading without coffee!

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 51 comments I'm with you! I definitely need coffee, especially after late nights of reading. I have two little kids so my reading time is after everyone else is asleep.

I think that is a great idea about the audiobook. I may have to try that, too!

message 28: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 2 comments I read whenever I can, usually on my commute to work and on weekends when my daughter is at her dad's and I have the house to myself. Reading also provides entertainment for me while my daughter dominates the TV (there's only so much Scooby Doo, My Little Pony and Daffy Duck I can handle) but I can't truly engross myself in reading when she's around as I constantly have to stop what I'm doing to answer all the questions that come from her enquiring 3 year-old mind!
