1.1 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

-OR- you read a book published in January of 2024 (and receive a BONUS POINT)

1.2 JANUARY BIRTHDAYS
This month we celebrate DIANA GABALDON & JASPER FfORDE, both share Birthdays on January 11

1.5 COLORS OF WINTER

1.6 NATIONAL SOUP MONTH
With the cold weather, soup is the perfect meal to stay warm and cozy.
List your FAVORITE SOUP.
Read a book where the first letter of each word of it's title is in the name of your soup.
(must be at least a 2-word title)
e.g. Soup Name: BROCCOLI CHEESE
Radiant Heat - One Last Chance

1.7 (Linda C's Task) MY BIRTHDAY MONTH 🎂
Read a book that starts with a letter in BIRTHDAY (may skip A, An, The).

1.8 (Bethany's Task) NATIONAL RUBBER DUCKIE DAY
This holiday is celebrated on January 13.
Rubber Duckies serve no practical purpose. They are silly and whimsical and exit mostly to make you smile or brighten up your day.
Read a book that has no practical purpose, but makes you smile.

1.9 (Mickslibriarian's Task) National "DO SOMETHING" Day
Read one book.

a. January 8 - National Clean Off Your Desk Day. Read a book with a desk on the cover. BONUS if the desk has nothing on it.

b. January 10 - National Take the Stairs Day. Read a book with stairs on the cover. BONUS if there is a person on the stairs.

1.10 (Amber's Task) NEW YEAR NEW YOU
Read a book that is the first of a new series for you (tell us series name) or where the MC does something that you want to try for the first time this year (tell us what it is)

Two Point Tasks

2.1 THE LOTTERY

2.2 READ THE ALPHABET
Read 2 Books

1. Read a book that it's TITLE starts with the LETTER A (exclude A, An or The)
2. Read a book whose Author's FIRST/LAST name starts with the LETTER A.

2.3 (Tessa's Task) HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Read 2 Books

My friend, Barbara, celebrates her birthday exactly one month after mine.

1. Read a book by an author whose first and last initials are in BARBARA (Initials can be used only so often as they appear in the target word. Middle initials, if used, may be ignored)

2. Read a book that was originally published the month before OR after the above book. (e.g. For prompt a) you read a book first published in April by an author whose initials are B A; the book you read for THIS part of the task should be originally published in either March or May. Year does not matter.)

2.4 (Tessa's Task) THREE KINGS DAY
Read 2 Books

Some cultures give gifts on Three Kings Day (Feast of the Epiphany) rather than Christmas. Among the traditions are "King's cake" wherein a charm (usually a baby figure) is hidden in the cake. The person who gets the slice with the baby in it will have good luck.

1. Read a series book # 3 /or/ read a book whose original publication year ends in '3'

2. Read a book with the word "BABY" found in the text. Cite the quote and location.

Three Points

3.1 (Linda C’s task) Characteristics of Books I like to Read
Read 3 Books

There are factors that draw me when I’m browsing for a book to read. Maybe some of these are a trigger for you also. Hope this gets your reading year off to an enjoyable start.

Pick 3 and tell us how it fits the book you read.

1. Humor – I like a bit of humor. It might mean a light read or just something that breaks up a heavy topic. Read a book that is tagged humor/humour, funny, or LOL – tell us how many times it was tagged and if you agree

2. Quirky Characters – Read a book with a quirky character. This can be interpreted many ways, use your own interpretation – useful link https://www.goodreads.com/genres/quirky

3. Romance – I like a bit of Romance. Read a book with a Romance in it.

4. Adventure – I like stories that pit a person against something, require a quest, travel to far off lands or space. Read a book that takes you on an adventure, your interpretation.

5. Strong female character – Read a book about a real or fictional woman who takes charge of her life and/or leads others.

6. Learn Something New – Read a book that included something you knew little about; a culture, a job, a country, a period of history, etc - your choice
