Mike | 0 comments I have to say I found the books disappointing as a whole. As we've mentioned in other threads, the book is trying to do too many things at once. I found it best when talking about the economic history of the era in general and when talking about CV's family in particular. But when Stiles tried to blend the two, I found myself really struggling to stay engaged. What did everyone else think?

Will Reeves | 12 comments This won a Pulitzer, right? Is it just me or are Pulitzer's not a great indication of a truly quality book? I have read several (though mainly in fiction or Poetry) and do not always think they meet the criteria for excellence.
I agree that the economic and era based history was really interesting. Just not sure what set this book apart as a Pulitzer winner.

Mike | 0 comments I completely agree, Will! That's primarily why I thought it would be a great read. That just made it all the more disappointing! I kept waiting for it to get great, which never really happened.
