Gina Royal comes home with her two young children, Brady and Lily, to find her house damaged by a drunk driver. When she identifies herself to police, she’s threatened and immediately arrested, frightening her children in the process. She soon sees the nightmare in her garage. Was there any other way the police could have handled her? Do you think the detective believed her response in that moment?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I'm going to side with the police on this. The have just uncovered a gruesome murder and have no idea who is responsible. Although any idiot cop should have known she would have run if she had been involved. I don't think any of them believed she wasn't involved.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments The cops are going to assume the homeowners know what is going on in their own home. They figure Gina had to be the killer or the accomplice. I don't think they thought she was telling the truth.

They can’t assume anything but the worst in these situations. She’s the homeowner and they can’t afford to give her the benefit of the doubt. They could have handled the children better, though.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I am very late to this discussion, having just read the first two books. I was horrified that the young children were not handled well at all, and I suppose the police did what they had to do with Gina, but it was awful.
