Hello everyone and welcome to the first Susan Ee Q&A! This Q&A will be around the incredible first book in the series, Angelfall.

Susan will be popping in and out of this thread tomorrow (April 3rd) to answer your questions, and you can start asking away now.

We can't wait to hear your questions and, of course, Susan's answers!

Ileana (theultimateairshippirate) | 74 comments Yay! I'm so excited!! Iv been waiting for this day since it was announced! And I have so many questions for Susan, I don't know which one to ask first!
1) Is any news about the film adaptation of Angelfall?
2) Why did Penryns mother put those trackers on peige and pens cloths? Did she know about the apocalypse during the World before?
3) (Since Pen calls Raffe Raffe and not Raphael) Does his name still have power when called Raffe?
4) Did Raffe feel more bad when his sword rejected him or when Pen 'died'?
Thanks a lot! I really hope you are able to answer all these questions and they are not too many! Thanks!

message 3: by Carly (new)

Carly Armando | 1 comments What inspire you to make these books? What was your favourite scene to write? I can't wait to read Peryn and the Ends of Days! You became one of my favourite writers <3 Kisses from Argentina :D

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) Thank you for doing this Q&A, Susan, you are the best! <3

I'd like to know, is there any moment or conversation between Raffe and Penryn that you like the most and why?

Also, I've read that you wrote a lot of scenes in Raffe's POV, just to get a hold of the character. I know that you've been asked this already, but is there any possibility of you releasing some of them as extras? :) Or maybe a novella? Because we all need more! *.*
Absolutely can't wait for EoD, I'm sooo excited!!

Cecilie (adorkthatreads) This is so cool!

What was the reason that the series was cut down to a trilogy? I wouldn't have minded five or six books at all! ;)

Katerina Kondrenko (katerina_kondrenko) I'm agree with Kathrina! Raffe's POV... it would be awesome, I swear! Girls have already asked a bunch of a good questions so I have just a few:

1. Why Penryn saw the future? I mean her dreams about Paige and Locust in Angelfall. Is she a prophet or smth like that?

2. Is there so many nephilims to kill on earth? Why Raffe has been here since the beginning of times? For so long!

Esri | 11 comments Hey Susan Ee!

I really liked the book angelfall and I heard that there will be a movie of Angelfall. This would be great!

My first Question is if there will be a movie of Angefall.

Moreover I was really excited to read the following books because I needed to know what is going to happen next but then I realised world after is just on english. I need to read it on german because I need to understand every detail.

So my second Question is if your book will be translated in german I especially mean world after and the following ones.

Mita | 80 comments Hi Susan!!

Could you please share how you created your characters? Were they inspired by people in your life? People you wish were in your life? Childhood friends? A culmination of different people? Or were you the inspiration for them? What, if any, parts/traits of them did you mold after yourself?

And why angels and the end of the world? Did you always have a fascination with Angels, Demons, and the whole Religion debate?

Finally, are you planning on writing more books after this?

I really hope so!!!
Thank you for these books! They've been awesome!

Natalie (nataliesurace) | 24 comments Can you tell us any more about what real nephilim look like? For example, do they have wings or physical distortions that make them look like monsters or is their hunger the only thing monstrous about them? Will we learn more about nephilim in End of Days?

Thanks Susan! Can't wait!

message 10: by Madeline (new) - added it

Madeline (madelinee34) | 18 comments This is so cool! Thanks Susan :)

1) Will you be writing any novellas for this trilogy?
2) Will the kiss scene from the sword be included in the last book? ;)
3) Is it Raf - Eh or Raff - ee? My friend says it the second way and I don't know which one's correct, lol.

message 11: by Esha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Esha (potatothug) | 90 comments Thank you susan ee!!
All the questions already mentioned are exactly what I want to know about too though there is one thing I'm genuinely curious about and that is, who do you (which character?) do you like writing for the most? and why? is it quirky nd brave penryn or the definitely admirable and silent Raphael? or is it another charater entirely..

message 12: by M (new) - rated it 4 stars

M - What race is she? I always imagine her as Asian looking.
- You described her eyes once as 'midnight eyes', does that mean she has dark blue or brown eyes?

Will we get to know more about Layla and her backstory with Raffe in the final installment? I am very curious about her:)
I really admire your way of writing, Susan! It's so vivid and you bring across so much emotions without actually pointing them out. Raffe and Pens relationship is so much more intense because of that! Because although they never talked about anything involving their changing relationship, there was SO much written between the lines.
Today books that you can read over and over again and always find something new are really rare, so thank you very much for letting us being part of Penryns story!:)

Александра Запашина | 1 comments What kind of music do you associate with the book?

nshowsherbooks | 25 comments First of all thank you so much for writing such an amazing story! I got pulled in from the start and it's very unique!
I have a couple of questions:
Will you be writing more books that will take place in this world?
Could you maybe give us a small sneak peak of End of days? ;) It's okay if you can't, we're all kust dying to get our hands on the book!
What inspired you to write this story, since it's so unique I'm really wondering what could inspire someone to make a story like this.
Will you write any more books? Of yes do you already know what it will be about? I'm going to buy it either way but I'm curious! ;')
Thank you so much for being an amazing author and for answering my questions if you do!

message 15: by shrish (last edited Apr 03, 2015 01:49AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

shrish (orshay) In the first book, Raffe said that angels were just stumbling around in the dark and they occasionally hit something terrible. Could you tell us more about that? Does Raffe speak from experience? What is 'dark' a metaphor of?

Jenna (jennasilver) Susan you are my favorite indie writer.

In many Angel books the angels represent a connection to god
why or how is the connection with these angels different? Raffe doesn't even believe in god. What made you choose for this way?
I'm not sure if you can answer this question, but is Penryn's mom really crazy or does she have some connection with the angels?
I loved Penryn's mom in fact loved all the characters what made you pick her mother in the way that she is?
Thanks for you great books and your time.

Patricia (patriciamarques) | 3 comments First of all thank you so very much for writing such an amazing story, I loved to read and re-read it.

My question is about Penryn's mom, other than Raffe and Penryn she is no doubt my favorite character because she's always fascinated me. I would like to know where did you get the inspiration or the propper knowledge to get in her state of mind.

She's so believable but at the same time so terrifing it's amazing! Thank you, I can't wait for the End of Days!

message 18: by Gabi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gabi (gabimohrer) What are your favorite Raffe/Penryn moments? There are just sooooo many :)

message 19: by Esha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Esha (potatothug) | 90 comments There was not alot of light put on Raffe's past but like the blurb as well as the reviews say, we're gonna read more of that in the end of days so I wanted to ask whether you would describe Raffe's past as legendary (glory killing nephilim and all) or as a tragedy (lonely and sad)? I know what PookyBear would say though ;)
Also, I would like to appresiate your books. I love them and have loved them for a long time! And I love your writing style with action as well as snippets of humour and romance! I want you to keep writing forever and ever! As long as Raffe lives!

Susan Ee | 96 comments Hi there! Thanks so much for having me join in on the fun today! It’s so great to get a chance to chat with you. First, I want to say how much I love you guys. My readers have been the best cheering squad a writer could ever wish for. Your enthusiasm and love for Raffe and Penryn have been a dream come true. Thank you!

Susan Ee | 96 comments I’d love to get to know you a little better! Tell me a little about yourselves. What kinds of books do you like to read? I know you all read YA, but there’s a whole world within YA and a whole world outside of it. What’s your stage in life? High school? Retired? A soldier? A mommy? A teenaged super-spy? What part of the world do you come from? Ebooks or print?

It'll be fun for me to get to know you while I answer questions. :)

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) Susan wrote: "I’d love to get to know you a little better! Tell me a little about yourselves..."

Okay, I already asked something, so I hope it's okay if I ask another question?!

I'm 20, a college student from Germany and I guess I like to read all kinds of book, mostly fantasy or dark ones. Pateod is my favorite series since years, it's perfection! Oh and print! :D

And I wanted to ask how old is Raffe exactly? I'm having a hard time estimating his age. Or is he like ageless as in, he's always been around? Is he older than humanity?

message 23: by Susan (new) - added it

Susan Ee | 96 comments Ileana wrote: "Why did Penryns mother put those trackers on peige and pens cloths?..."

Because she's paranoid. It's hard to fathom why Penryn's mom does what she does. She just is who she is. We sometimes find that we have to accept people in our lives as they are and love them anyway.

Susan Ee | 96 comments Carly wrote: "What was your favourite scene to write? ... <3 Kisses from Argentina :D"

Hi Carly! Thanks for the kisses from Argentina. :) I visited there once and thought that Buenos Aires had strikingly beautiful and friendly people.

I loved writing a bunch of scenes from Angelfall, but the one that comes into mind right now is where (view spoiler) And the emotions...oh, man, I felt it all...

message 25: by M (new) - rated it 4 stars

M My name is Marikka, I am 16 years old and from Germany too. I am a student and currently in my final year. My favourite genres are horror, thriller and fantasy, but if a book from any other genre is able to catch my attention, I will read it too. I also like to read books in other languages like English and French.

Raffe once mentioned that Penryn had 'warrior status' for a couple of minutes. Now I am curious: would it be possible for a human like her to be officially considered a warrior. I mean she hold herself pretty decent in previous fights against fully trained and armed warrior angels.

Is there any possibility for me to get an autograph or a signed copy of one of the three books, although I am living in Germany?

One scene that comes to mind is the conversation between Raffe and Penryn when they're in the woods, where she says his head is so big it might get stuck when he tries to walk between trees. Okay, Penryn says it better, but you remember that scene, right? It still makes me laugh.

message 27: by Ails (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 18 comments We love you, too, Susan! I'm very happy to be a part of this group and this fandom. I've met a lot of people who are as crazy about this series as I am. And everyone is very nice and friendly! I've become friends with some of them and found my book-soulmate in HurrikanKathrina (Hi Kathrin! Haha!)

I'm 24 years old, from the Philippines. I'm currently working in IBM as their software engineer. Hmmm, I love buying prints because I collect them, but I find it very easy and convenient to read ebooks!

shrish (orshay) Susan wrote: "I’d love to get to know you a little better! Tell me a little about yourselves. What kinds of books do you like to read? I know you all read YA, but there’s a whole world within YA and a whole worl..."

I am a High School student and I read almost all kinds of YA. Whenever I finish a book, I have something in my mind, an instruction for what I want o read next. Do I want a sobby contemporary book or a badass fantasy series? It's just there. It's like a weird pattern with no real rhythm. I love prints but since ebooks are more accessible, 75% of what I read are ebooks. I live in India and there are never too few things to complain about here. It's nice talking to you. :)

message 29: by Susan (new) - added it

Susan Ee | 96 comments To clarify--don't feel like you need to answer my questions to ask a question. And you can just pipe in and tell us a little about yourself without asking a question, if you want. It's fun for me to get to know you a little since we're chatting.

But please--never feel like you need to give out information here that you're not comfortable having the world know. I have a lot of respect for you and your privacy. :)

How are you?

It's so great that you answer our questions :)

I'm 18, college student from Germany, and also a writer (well, I TRY to write :D). I love fantasy books and most of the time I read them in English <3

"End of Days" is my most anticipated book of the year and I can't wait to read it and probably cry my eyes out :D

message 32: by Esha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Esha (potatothug) | 90 comments Hello susan!
I'm Esha. I'm 15 and from India and I love to read all sorts of books though I must admit reading non-fiction takes more time than reading YA or dystopia :P
I did post a few questions earlier though I'm a little too curious so here goes nothing:
★ If you could describe the whole series, Penryn and the End of Days in a single sentence, what would that be?!
I know its silly though it would be totally cool if you would answer it :P

Susan Ee | 96 comments Cecilie wrote: "This is so cool!

I believe that every story has a natural length that's right for it. I'd hate to extend out a story just because I guessed it would take longer to tell or because it was popular. I originally thought that the story was so large that it would take a bunch of books to get it all out, but it turned out that the story felt right to me at three books.

message 34: by Esri (new) - rated it 5 stars

Esri | 11 comments Hello Susan Ee!

I find it great that you ask us something.
I'm Esra and from Germany but I'm actually turk and Esra is a arabic name and not same like Ezra :D
I like to read fantasy and books full of action and a little bit love and I like it when the books have a message to the readers.

First of all I really like to know how you got all those ideas for the book angelfall. Is it difficult to collect a full story ? :)

And I really like to know if the book series will be translated in german because I want to understand everything. :))

Thank you for your answers! ♥

also, I hope to see you at the RT convention.

Natalie | 54 comments Hi Susan and everyone in this thread/group! :D
I'm Natalie, 22 and also from Germany. :)
Currently I'm in the last months of my apprenticeship as a retail management assistant and am looking forward to heading into a more creative direction after my finals (which are just a week before the release of End of Days woop xD).
I like to read practically anything, as long as the story is interesting and the characters are well developed I don't care what genre the book is.

As for my question: Will we find out in End of Days what Raffe's name for Pooky Bear was? :D

Andrea Mignanelli Collado (andimignanelli) | 16 comments Hi Susan! Thank you so much for doing this for us, you're by far my favorite author :)
I'm Andrea, I live in Chile, I'm a dentistry student, I'm in my third year and reading is my stress free getaway between all the studying, so having your books on my shelf has made me read them over and over again, I just can't stop! Especially now that the wait for End of Days is killing me.
I have SO many questions, but right now I just want to tell you that your writing is flawless, the way you portrait the fighting sequences, the emotions, everything is just perfect, so thank you for granting us the pleasure to read your work.
A big hug from Chile <3

shrish (orshay) Do you ever have to do a whole lot of research about how a survivor would navigate certain situations before writing about them? Or do you just write what you think is right and hope to God your editor doesn't find it foolish?

message 42: by M (new) - rated it 4 stars

M Oh, and I wanted to tell you how much I admire your fighting scenes! I love them. I my freetime I do martial arts myself (Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Mama) and it's so refreshing to have an author who really goes into details. Normalky I often have the urge to roll my eyes during fighting scenes in books (or movies for that matter) because in reality it's just not like that. Your scenes in contrast come really close to how it really works!

Hi, Susan. You've become one of my favorite writers! I usually prefer physical books, but I thank my kindle for recommending your beautiful books. Other way I would have never find it. I'm from Panama and I recommend your books to everyone I know, I just want to share the feelings your story made me have.

I'm glad you are an honest author and won't try to make the story longer than it should just for the money as others do. Although I love Penryn and Raffe and would love them forever it's better to have three solid, wonderful books we could revisit anytime and still give us a feeling of belonging, hope and love.

I can't wait for the next book, and all the ones you may publish in the years to come.

Best wishes and a warm hug from Panama. Also I love this group, you guys are fantastic and really nice to everyone.

Thank you so much for you answer and words about us, readers. We love you too!)

I will ask to your questions as well)

It seems I can love any book within YA world but this book should be like emotion-roller-coaster, like feelings-squeezer. I dislike blah-blah-blah without actions but I dislike actions without at least a shade of romance (such a girl, yeah)) as well. Your series is my favorite ever for now, so I can say that you already know the magic-book-formula which is the key to I-can't-put-it-down, I-can't-stop-thinking-about-characters-fates, I-need-an-angel-no-archangel-boyfriend and other suchlike things.

I love when MCs are young because people of this age are so brave, sincere and strong... they really can change the world, to fight some aliens, to survive through some cyborgs attack but what's the most important is their feelings. I miss such a thing in the real life, people are too comfortable now, they forgot how to love, to befriend, to live. We always need a stress, a war, a treat for life just then we remember that we won't live forever) Just then we come to understand that simple things like shopping or coffee-breaks with friends are precious things.

BTW, I work as a writer/copywriter/content-manager for an IT company in Russia. I love prints but I prefer ebooks, so I don't have to bring with me everywhere a super bunch of heavy books (as I used to do before kindle, my preeeetty).

Thank you again for this incredible series!
*kisses*

Hi Mita! I prefer to walk into their world and get to know them. I don't think of myself as creating them. They invite me into their lives and I get to know them as I write about what I see and experience as I follow them around.

I try not to psychoanalyze them, and I try hard to never manipulate them. I just have to trust that they'll open up to me once they see that I'll be as open and respectful as I can to who they really are. That's when I get to see their true stories unfold.

Maellis | 2 comments Hi,
so I'm 19, I live in France and I love reading (well I think it's obvious if I'm here ^^)
Angelfall is one of my favorite series so thank you for this story because it's so good and I don't want it to be over, I will miss the characters so much :(
My question are :
-The whole time Raffe thought Penryn was dead, was he thinking a lot about her ? I mean, when he wanted to remember her, was he thinking about the fact he missed her humor or I don't know, something like that (sorry for my english :x)
-Where were the angels before going on earth ? (I don't remember if it has been said but I always wanted to know more about it)

Do you think you will come to France someday ? Because it will be so amazing to see you !!

BTW, about LOL-scenes. I'm still laughing at this one:

“What have we here?” I ask in what I hope is a tone of deadly amusement. “Michael, Gabriel, come see this,” I call out behind me as though there are more of us. Michael and Gabriel are the only two angel names I can think of. “The monkeys seem to think they can attack one of our own now.”
The men freeze. Everyone stares at me.
In that moment, while I hold my breath, possibilities roll around the room like a roulette wheel.
Then, a really bad thing happens.

and this one makes me laugh, too:

“Are you married?” I instantly regret asking this question as it conjures up an image of him with a painfully beautiful angel wife with little cherubs running around some estate with Grecian pillars.
He pauses in his trek and glares at me as if I just said something totally inappropriate.
“Don't let my appearance fool you, Penryn. I am not human. The Daughters of Men are forbidden to Angels.”
“What about Daughters of Women?” I attempt a cheeky smile but it falls flat.

I guess Penryn and Raffe should be grateful for your perfect sense of humor)
