Welcome to April 2024!

This month we start our new series, Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab. The schedule will be:
April 1, 2024: A Darker Shade of Magic
May 1, 2024: A Gathering of Shadows
June 1, 2024: A Conjuring of Light

I have not read anything by this author, so I am looking forward to the books and the discussion, and I hope you are, too.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 136 comments I've read that series but it's been a while. I might do a re-read, but I just started a chonker that I had pre-ordered last year. If I do finish this in a reasonable time I'll join you.

Andrew | 7 comments I saw your post and started A Darker Shade of Magic last week. This is my first book by Schwab as well.

Katy (kathy_h) | 208 comments I found my copy to read. First book by Schwab for me as well.

Andrew | 7 comments I have to update my note above. I have read Schwab before. I just realized she wrote The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, which I thought was really good.

Where can I get that series?

Is it a good series?

Ryan Romanovf | 13 comments Never heard of A darker shade of magic before, can I get the series on Amazon or Kobo?

Is the series a page turner?

Yes to Amazon, Ryan! I don't know about kobo. Barnes & Noble's Nook store has it, too.

It is available as a Kindle ebook on Amazon. I think you can get it on Kobo, too, but not through the app, only through the website. It’s also available in hardcover & paperback through Amazon & some used book sites/stores.

I thought the first book was excellent and will soon be starting the second book for our May discussion (after I finish my current, unrelated book). I thought the pacing was pretty fast—not necessarily a page-turner but certainly not slow. I hope you decide to join in!

I’ve never bought anything directly on Kobo. I only have it because I bought a couple Humble Bundles and they downloaded to Kobo. Amazon I my usual ebook source and I read on the Kindle app on my iPad. Occasionally the books (especially Amazon Originals) with free Audible versions, so I can little on my iPhone or iPad.

Ryan Romanovf | 13 comments I have never bought any ebooks from kobo either, that is why I was asking. I'm purchasing a kindle in the next couple of days but at the same time I was just wondering are kindle devices reliable or can you have problems with them?

I've had kindles for a long while now. My first one ( a 1st generation kindle) finally does not keep a charge, so I had to upgrade to a newer model, but all of my books and content are easily loaded into the new model.

Ryan Romanovf | 13 comments Oh right, I am definitely purchasing one, I think they are about or the cheapest one is about 600 aud. I'm looking forward to reading digital and not physical books for a change and apparently they don't have any problems with glare at all. Be looking forward to joining into the next series to be read, that's partly the reason why I am purchasing one.
