Here’s a list of verses I personally like from 2 Corinthians: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e...

Choose 9 of them (or any other verses you’d like) to put in this bracket according to which number it is:

[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]
[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]
[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]

When you memorize a verse, put an X in the bracket. Try to get 3 in a row, then another 3 in a row, then maybe even a blackout! Post your bracket here and update us on how you’re doing.

message 3: by Elijah (new)

Elijah Z. (elijah6734) | 79 comments I just finished reading 2 Corinthians. There are so many spiritual gems and truths contained in that book of the Bible. I plan on going back to chapter 1 and doing a more thorough reading next week.

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Wow! Nice, that's awesome! I'm an extremely slow reader; I think I'm on chapter 9 XD

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments I thought that I'd post the Bibleproject poster from the video overview just for fun:

It's a good reminder for me personally as I read:)

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Oops, the image is too small for me to read :( I recommend the video if any of y'all get the chance:)

I finished 2 Corinthians some time ago. Unfortunately, I'm not reading my Bible as faithfully/carefully as I should. I find that it's really helpful for me to memorize verses, because it really makes me soak in what it's saying.

My favorite verse so far: "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) I'm almost done with 2 Corinthians. Sometime when I have the chance I'll post the verses I've highlighted and why I highlighted them.

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Awesome! Thanks:))

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) Just finished. Something that always annoys me when reading Pauline Epistles is that Paul seems so arrogant. Is that just me that struggles with feeling that way? (So I sent this to my bestie and she had a really good thought on this, she said she wonders if it wasn't because he was speaking with authority, and she wonders if we as Christians don't often use that authority because we feel like we have to tiptoe around and not offend people, whereas Paul spoke the truth bluntly and didn't worry about offending people. And maybe we should use that authority more)

Verses I've highlighted

2 Corinthians 1:4-5
4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share
- This was interesting to me. Because God comforts us in our affliction we can comfort others in theirs.

2 Corinthians 2:14-15
14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,

We are the aroma of Christ. What an interesting thought. It is us, God's children, who are able to spread the Hope of Christ to the world.

2 Corinthians 3:14
But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.

The law won't save us. Only Christ can lift the veils from our eyes so we can see the Truth, nothing of our own doing can make us see that.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

So powerful, and so beautiful to read.

2 Corinthians 4:4,6.
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

We can't save people. We can tell them about Christ, and show them His hope but until He opens their eyes to be able to see Him they won't be able to. And sometimes He uses us to open their eyes, other times He simply uses us to plant seeds that someone else will water and cultivate.

2 Corinthians 4:8-10
8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.

He will always be our strength. He allows us to suffer that His light might shine brighter.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

Interesting thought. So does all the suffering here on earth prepare us for heaven's glory? Would we not be able to carry the weight of glory without having suffered here on earth?

2 Corinthians 5:15
15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

He died to give us purpose, to give us something, and someone, to live for. Without that purpose we'd simply be floating along in time, selfishly trying to make ourselves happier.

2 Corinthians 7:10
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

Wow. This is so good.

I didn't really highlight much after this point but this book is packed full of goodness.

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Sometimes Paul's tone seems forceful to me too, but I think she's right about Paul speaking with authority. It's hard to balance empathy with discipline, especially in writing. I've also heard that Paul is not perfect and that throughout his letters you can see him becoming more humble and Christ-like. I think that 1st and 2nd Corinthians were one of his earlier letters, so it would make sense that he seems arrogant. Hopefully that made sense lol 😄

I love those 😍 I pulled out almost all of those verses as well for the memorization verses. I especially love what you said about 2 Corinthians 2:14-15, about how we are the aroma of Christ. Such a beautiful thing to picture.

On 2 Corinthians 4:16-17, I think the suffering on Earth does prepare us for Heaven's glory in a way. Since we are born into a broken world, God must refine us through fire to prepare us for Heaven. That's my take on it, at least:)

Thank you so much for sharing! There were so many good things in there, and you pointed out things that I didn't catch:)

You're so right about that:))

message 11: by Elisabeth (Bets) (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) Interesting thought. I feel like going and reading all of Paul's letters in "published" order now and seeing if I notice that. lol

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments That would be really cool if you did that! Please let me know if you do and what you think:)

message 13: by Elisabeth (Bets) (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) I'm not doing that right now since I'm currently reading other books but I might have to do that sometime.

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Makes sense! Yes, I've got to do that sometime as well:)
