Rebecca Jane (bec3sjhdbzljldsgwsm) | 19 comments I was underwhelmed by the plot when I read this last year. but I have high hopes for the second book as it sounds more exciting :)

Vanessa Finished this book last night, and it was incredible! I loved every single moment of this book. I didn't want it to end. June 9th cannot come soon enough for me. I NEED the second book! I need to know what's going to happen!

What's this thing that came out of the Red Queen fireplace!? Why is it commanding her not to harm Kelsea in any way shape or form!?

Kelsea kills the traitor by her own hand! The Fetch gives her back the other sapphire, and then all hell breaks lose with the power that she now wields!

Aaahhh! So much! LOL!

Vanessa I like that at the end we finally find out who the Glynn Queen is. We kept reading those snippets from Tear history books and I was wondering who they were referring to. I though that it was Kelsea, but I was curious about the Glynn part. I loved how that piece of info was revealed.

Just finished the book.
I found 60℅ of this book very dull but last 40℅ of it was actually quite entertaining I enjoyed the ending immensely. Although I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I expected, I am really curious on where this storyline is going and am planning on continuing the series.

Molly | 15 comments For the most part, I thought this book was great. I have a lot of unanswered questions, though, specifically about the crossing. Hopefully the coming books will address that! And I can't wait to see what's going on with the dark thing/sapphires/Andalie. I saw some of the plot twists coming- Mhurn being the traitor, the Glynn Queen, Barty and Carlin being dead- but I was still able to be surprised by some things. I'm looking forward to book two, but I think a lot of what I think about this series is riding on the next books.

Viola | 6 comments There's nothing bad I could say about this book. I absolutely enjoyed it and loved the characters. It's the first of a series, so of course there remain some mysteries. And I'm quite certain the next books will be equally good, because the author knows what she's doing.

Morgan Blanch (hopelessbookaddict) Oh, my God, this was so good! My full thoughts are here:

But overall, it was such a good read! I love that she stood up to the Mace (finally), and showed them whose boss.
I would love to see more of the Fetch in the next book, and get some answers on that damned Crossing.
To the next book we go! :D

Morgan Johns (morganjohns) | 4 comments The book was written very nicely but I have way too many unanswered questions to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Andalie's powers? The Queen of Mortmesne? The Fetch? Her father? The crossing? Hopefully this book is just a huge setup for an amazing book to follow. I will give the next book a shot just to see if some, if not all, of my questions are answered. I do like the world that the book is set up in. My favorite moments were when Kelsea had the dream of Thorne's raid and when Kelsea discovered the power she had with both jewels. I couldn't help but feel so proud for her as the book ended and finally knowing who the Glynn Queen was. :)

Alexa (alexabc) I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Quite honestly, the book was boring until the last 100 pages or so. Still glad I read it though :) and I'm still excited to see the movie!!

I agree! My favorite part was the crowning.

Kristen (kaybee1216) | 1 comments I'm pretty neutral about this book. I felt that for a lot of it, I was waiting for the plot to start, and I really wasn't a huge fan of Kelsey for most of the book. I know that with the way she was raised and the situation her kingdom is in, she was under a lot of stress, but I just didn't feel like she had a personality.
However, once she was crowned, I think the book picked up a lot. I think the best part of the book were the characters. The Fetch, Mace, Pen, Andalie, and the queen of Mortemense were so interesting and I have so many questions that I feel like weren't answered.
I think a lot of the things I didn't like about this book were because it's the first in a series and this book is just setup for the rest of the series. I really hope that the next book is going to be more plot driven and we'll get more information about the characters that we've already seen.

Quinton (asagecalledq) | 17 comments I enjoyed it and actually looking forward to the sequel which I found out isn't out yet. Boooooo

Hayley | 3 comments There's so much world building and details and culture knowledge given to us that at times the plot moves at a snails pace. But in this book, I didn't have a problem with that. I'm seriously excited for the movie as well as the next book.

I'm almost positive it was the Fetch and rose out of the fireplace. It makes sense since he wants to protect Kelsea. Also, we know he has lived for a very long time, so he might be an immortal. Which makes me even more excited to read book 2 to find out for sure!

Christina Pilkington I really enjoyed reading this book! The writing style was perfect - just enough detail to help me imagine the world but not a lot of excessive language to bog down the story. I always found myself reading a lot longer than I thought I would. I also didn't mind the slow build. That might be because I read a lot of adult epic fantasies and I'm used to that, but I think if the world building and set up of the characters are not given enough time, than it makes for a weaker story later on. I am so excited to read the sequel in a few months :)

Miss Diana I almost didn't pick up the book for this month, but I'm really glad I did! I appreciated the slow pace that lets us get to know the characters and gives us a feel for the world. I enjoyed the plot and the writing. I look forward to finding out the answers to some of the questions that still remain and also seeing Kelsea's journey as she continues to fight for her kingdom.

Jagoda | 5 comments I've just finished it, guyse ! Here's my review , If anyone would be interested in reading it : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
And yeah, I am super excited to read the next book and for the movie ! And , I admit, I cried a bit at the ending. Am I the only one?

Charlie (sharli) | 1 comments I really enjoyed this book! Even though it was a little slow, I understand that it was for the sake of world building and defining Kelsea's character and I really appreciate that. I liked seeing Kelsea growing into her role as queen, learning about the Tear and it's politics and earning the trust and respect of those around her. Sometimes books gloss over these important parts of a story and I found in this case it adds credibility and complexity to the story.
Im really looking forward to seeing where this story is going and I'm sure the action packed scenes are going to be amazing. I'm really curious about Kelsea's father, the Fetch and the Queen of Mortmesne.
