Bill (kernos) | 324 comments I finished reading this fantastic book one of an 18 book+ epic fantasy—The Saga of Recluce. It's a June group read for one of my groups. I like it a lot and want to continue, but have all these big piles of books I've not yet read. What to do?

Any advice from those who've read the whole series?

Xan Shadowflutter (shadowflutter) I loved Magic of Recluse too, but I quit reading after the 4th or 5th book in the series because I felt the quality began to ebb. None were as good as the original, in my opinion, and Magic Engineer is Magic of Recluse in disguise. However, that was a while ago, and perhaps its time to try again. If he wrote one as good as the first, maybe there are other gems in the series.

Bill (kernos) | 324 comments I'm going to try a few more to see if Larris grows up at all. I have a feeling it's character driven which I like.

Evan I enjoyed them, I just can never get over my dislike of Modesitt hopping between characters. I like my series to maintain the story. At least for a while you could piece his stuff together in a timeline easily, but with his new stuff it won't work until more books are out. It has kept me from reading his more recent books. I like individual characters not the overall story per say that he does.

If you are unsure read up to book 3-4 and see how you like the universe. It is pretty nice and the characters he writes about are never actually bad, just maybe a little overused for being different people.
