Janine Wild | 11 comments My top 3 are:
The Fever Series by Moning (although it's more PNR)
The Charlie Madigan Series by Kelly Gay
The Dark Days Series by Jocelynn Drake

I'm looking for a new favorite series to take over my top spots. Any recommendations for a good Urban Fantasy read? Thanks!

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments I have a ton but these would be my top 3 for sure.

Kate Daniel series by Ilona Andrews
The Weird Girls by Cecy Robson
The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones (this one is so darn funny!)

And I also highly recommend these:

The Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep
The Sentinels of New Orleans by Suzanne Johnson
The Hollow Series by Kim Harrison
Alpha & Omega Series by Patricia Briggs
Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs

Janine Wild | 11 comments I'll have to check out The Weird Girls, and the Sentinels of New Orleans. Those are the two I haven't heard about before.

message 4: by Rebecca (last edited Apr 07, 2015 02:27PM) (new)

Rebecca Norinne (rebeccanorinne) The Fever Series is at the top of my list ... right up until Shadowfever and then it kind of lost me. I'm trying to decide if I want to continue reading the series now (just found out that it continues).

I also really liked the Merry Gentry series by Laurel K. Hamilton but stopped reading at A Lick of Frost because it kind of went of the deep end for me.

message 5: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl La Pa (cheryllp) | 24 comments My favourites are:

Fever series by Karen Moning
Steel & Stone series by Annette Marie
Shadow Reader series by Sandy Williams
Charlie Davidson series by Darynda Jones
Shaede Assassin series by Amanda Bonilla

message 6: by Salome (new)

Salome | 35 comments I've just recently started reading UF. But The Fever series Darkfever by KMM is definitely topping my list right now.

I bought the first Kate Daniels book Magic Bites but I just haven't been able to get into it. Does it get better?

message 7: by Isabel (new)

Isabel Jordan | 57 comments Gotta go with Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series, followed closely by Darynda Jones Charley Davidson series...

message 8: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) Salome wrote: I bought the first Kate Daniels book Magic Bites..." I kinda felt the same way, but I do think it picked up and now its one of my favs.

Try the October Daye series Rosemary and Rue (October Daye #1) by Seanan McGuire by Seanan McGuire; it just keeps getting better and better. Also I love Faith Hunter's Skinwalker by Faith Hunter (Jane Yellowrock series).

So many UF series with female leads seem to be the same (the lead is a struggling (fill in the blank) that reading them is just repetitive...but these 2 are very different IMHO. Good luck!

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Love Kate Daniels! It definitely gets better!

message 10: by Penny Well Reads (last edited Apr 08, 2015 05:22AM) (new)

Penny Well Reads (pennywellreads) | 11 comments My UF favorites are:
1. Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost
2. Georgina Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead. Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead
3. Tales of an Extrordinary Girl Series by Gena Showalter. Playing with Fire (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #1) by Gena Showalter

Others:
I also enjoyed quite a few of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and books 4&5 of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. Also some of the books from the series Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton

message 11: by Janine (new)

Janine Wild | 11 comments I think Moning should have stopped after Shadowfever. Iced was just okay, and I still have to read Burned.
I'll have to check out Steel & Stone Series. That's a new one for me.
Maybe I should give Kate Daniels another try...everyone I talk to seems to agree that it gets better.

message 12: by Penny Well Reads (new)

Penny Well Reads (pennywellreads) | 11 comments Iced made me really mad, so I king of pretend the Fever series ended in book 5, I will not be continuing.

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 192 comments There are so many great UF series, it would be hard to pick a favorite.

I'm currently obsessed with the Irin Chronicles by Elizabeth Hunter

The Scribe (Irin Chronicles, #1) by Elizabeth Hunter

message 14: by Janine (new)

Janine Wild | 11 comments Me, too! 6 & 7 are like spinoffs...but I'll probably still give Burned a try.

message 15: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Davis | 34 comments Shifters Unbound, series Jennifer Ashley
Alpha and Omega series Patricia Briggs
mercy Thompson series Patricia Briggs
Cal and Niko Leandros, series by Rob Thurman
Chronicles of Nick, series Sherrilyn Kenyon
Chicagoland Vampires,series Chloe Neil

message 16: by Janine (new)

Janine Wild | 11 comments Might make Nightlife my next read Carolyn. It'll be my first book from Rob Thurman.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Leenart I too don't know how I would pick my absolute top 3 series, it often changes with which books are current etc.

The Elemental Mysteries Elizabeth Hunter
Hidden Series Colleen Vanerlinden
Jane Yellowrock Faith Hunter
Sensor series Susan Illene
Steel and Stone Annette Marie
Hellcat Sharon Hannaford
Bite Back Mark Henwick

I could go on! But I've noticed I have a big thing for Indie authors lately, there is so much quality out there that goes unnoticed by the masses.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) If we're just picking one, I'd pick The Hollows by Kim harrison (except the last two books). To me it was a consistently great series that improved with age, and kept an interesting, layered storyline with interesting, diverse characterization. It had dark, gritty times, genuine tragedy, but also genuine humor and quirkiness that worked. Liked the authors' writing style and the world she made in it.

To me PNR is about the romance and sex first and foremost, and UF is more about the plot with the romance in the background. Not always but usually. And PNR has a lot more sex as a general rule.

Thanks Erin, that makes sense.. to me UF means a kickass heroin in leather pants and high heals lol
I was trying to differenciate Fantasy vs Paranormal, didn't think of the 'romance' part.

message 28: by Janine (new)

Janine Wild | 11 comments 99% of the time I read UF and every once in a while some PNR. I always go back to the Guild Hunter series...soo good.
I really like Black Wings, too, and the Arcadia Bell series.

message 29: by Jutta (new)

Jutta | 1 comments I recommend 'The Dresden Files' by Jim Butcher and also 'Mercy Thompson' bei Patricia Briggs. In both series strong main-characters and the right amount of romance.

Nomadicbynature | 10 comments Thank you so much for posting your favorites, perhaps I will find many I enjoy from yours.

I am a huge fan of:
Mercy Thompson
Kate Daniels
Jane Yellowrock

I like Iron Druid as well as Ginn Hale's Rifer but that may not be UF. I enjoyed October Daye.

Could not get into The Hollows, I read Fever but shezz, I will not put myself through it again. Downside Ghosts was ok but I finally got sick of the main chick disrespecting herself so much.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi-
I loved mercy Thompson and Jane yellow rock-- who is Kate Daniels? Series!!!!? I must know!!!!

The hollows- I'll say this: I read the first and put it away. I revisited a few years later because I was desperate. Sounds terrible-- truly is? After the second book? HOOK LINE AND SUNK! I was sad when the series ended but the character development was sincerely amazing and I miss AL the most! Lol... And newt, I won't lie- I feel like she and Rachel could meet again. But the series ended, sigh. If u can give it another shot, please try! I think it is worth it! 13 books in the series and I really think it is all that and a bag of toads;-)

Jane Yellowrock- best ever. And mercy? Yeah- great taste!!!!

AJ

Kate Daniels is from a series written by Ilona Andrews. First book is Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews . The series starts slow, but I highly recommend it. I'm a big fan of any writing by the Andrews. (they are a husband and wife team).

I wouldn't say horrible. I would agree that it was not as strong as the others. Also, I just had to know what happened:)

I think I'll give The Witchling a whirl:) Sounds like my kind of book.

message 43: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sophieg13) | 64 comments its a good series. Each book in the series focuses on one of the three sisters and then it just continues with that formula for each book that comes out.

I didn't want to read one bad book and have it destroy the whole series for me so I ended up staying away from it.

I really enjoyed the Witchling book also

message 47: by Katie (new)

Katie (dreamangelmistaolcom) | 43 comments I really enjoyed Burned, its kind of YA but i really liked it. I also liked The Serenity Series: Box Set: Books 1-3 Serenity series was interesting bc it started off very different, a woman very sad and utterly alone due to a abusive husband, and i mean ABUSIVE...felt like i was living it right with her..and this lone vampire picks up on her utter sadness and sees her running and wants to protect her. But its not just about vampires...i STILL have not figured out what her husband turned into! Theres other beings also. Also Ethereal this is the celestra series and i read the first couple and i liked it, again bordering on YA but enjoyable. i just finished The Garden of Eden and that was YA/ UF too but good. Very different, in this book the girl is half devil half angel and she kinda gets recruited to be assistant to the grim reaper..while her ghost boyfriend follows along.. The Ghost and the Graveyard this book was awesome and HOT. A Job From Hell classic UA , lots of different beings and things going on, a great read. Sterling i have not finished this one yet but half way and its been really interesting. Wicked Lovely great book,if u are into the fae and stuff a very popular series, i loved this book. And i also love Zoey Rogue...awesome book.

message 48: by Janine (new)
