Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments This month we will be reading The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

This book was nominated by Rosalyn for our monthly theme Road Trip.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

SarahKat | 6219 comments If you like audio books and/or the movies, listen to Andy Serkis narrate the book! It's so wonderful

Lorraine | 2379 comments I've read it before the movies got out. It took me a few times to get into it. In the end my husband made me promise to read 100 pages and then decide what I wanted to do. It was the right thing to do as I finally read it and thought this book was just perfect if you like the genre.

Alina | 257 comments I wanted to read this for years now and am so happy it is our group read!
Not sure yet when in July I´ll start but I am looking forward to it!

I agree. I listened to his audio version of The Hobbit and it was fantastic (well, except his singing isn't the greatest, but then again neither is mine). This is a great way to revisit the book if you've already read it. Serkis was the voice of Gollum in the LOTR and Hobbit movies, of course.

Lulo | 89 comments When the film trilogy was anounced, my godmother gifted me the books. I loved them (I got a Lord of the Rings tattoo on my left arm).
Earlier this year, one of my brothers gave me back one of the books that I have lended him, and then I thougt that it was time for read them again.
So, here I am, reading it again, more than 20 years later, with the same books I read it the first time.
