July 2024: Debut

Announcing the July Tag

Of course, it might not have the 5 tags for debut if it's really new!

I like this list. It's mind blowing to think of the success and the lasting legacy of some of these first novels.
Of course, some of the titles on the list aren't actually debuts. Fans don't always check publication dates.

This is what I"m doing as well. Also some debuts of authors where I've only read one of their later books even if they are aren't a favourite author.

Readers don't always narrowly define DEBUT either. For example, they may tag if first by author in new genre, or new series even. Back in the day, some may have originally published under a pseudonym where it was a debut under that name but author published before under own or different name, then later all got gathered and new printings published under one name.

If any literary fiction lovers are looking for a strong, short book, I really enjoyed Monstrilio.

"March 2019: Debut - 118 books read"
The bookshelf itself currently says 117, so something must have been removed since March 2019, I suppose.

I've read all but two, Girl in Transition and The Bees.. The Rosie Project was a complete surprise 5 star for me.

I see that you've given The Bean Trees 5 stars. I love that too, my introduction to Barbara Kingsolver many years ago.

Thanks Holly. I love this list. I bumped up Florence Adler, and added Etta and Otto and … to my list of potentials for the month. I wouldn’t mind rereading Beantree and Language of Flowers too.

Exactly! Something for everyone because all genres of author had a debut at some point.

The Eternal Audience of One by Rémy Ngamije

Fabulous list, Holly! While I have read or have many on my TBR, you still alerted me to soooo many! Thanks for sharing.
Want to put a good word in for The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey - and with all of us in the US suffering from dreadful heat, it will be a 'cool' escape in July.

I could do that. I'm not hearing a debut singing my name at the moment.

I'm waiting on that pick too. Guess it is the reality of doing reading challenges where everyone is in different time zones. On the plus we have a worldwide group of people looking out for new books we might otherwise miss. Love being in this group.

Great! I will set up a buddy read July 1. Anyone is of course welcome to join. I have even located my paperback copied.
FYI - I do not believe it has sufficient tags for BWF, if that matters to anyone thinking of joining. Doesn't with me.

Thanks for the note Theresa. It has only 2 debut tags, but works for a letter match for bwf. I’ve been waiting for her newest Paris book all month.

Looking for Jane
These Ghosts are Family
Wild Women and the Blues
The Pearl that Broke its Shell
Patron Saint of Liars
The House at Riverton - (Ist Kate Morton)

I loved Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table when I read it and hope you do too!
What's ironic, is that normally I have lots of books coming up that are debuts, but don't have any debuts currently on my TBR list.
I'm glad that you and others here are finding my Debut shelf interesting. ;0)

I bought the Paris book last week when at one of my local indie bookstores. No time to read right now but had to own it!

I'll be adding one more once I catch up on my reviews.

Forever, Interrupted
A Woman Is No Man
Uncle Tom’s Cabin
I recently discovered The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, but I am not sure if I want to tackle this one yet.

I also have Edgar on my TBR/Keep attempting to read.
I'm currently reading The Thursday Murder ClubThe Thursday Murder Club which was going quite well until life kicked me in the head again today. I think that fits Debut?
I also have Lessons in Chemistry which I keep trying to get to and Remarkably Bright Creatures which also sounds fabulous.....now if only I can switch my head off and get back to my books.

The other two tags had their supporters, but were exactly tied, lol. But there's no chance they catch up.
The tag for next month is:
debut
