Thank you, Noah, for the suggestion!
And sorry for not making any deep dives yesterday, I completely forgot

If we think about it, May going insane because of the curse Hades made for whoever tried to become the next Oracle is the reason everything in the books had happened.
If she hadn't tried to become the Oracle, she would have still had the prophetic gift, but wouldn't have been able to foresee fragments of Luke's horrible destiny, because it wouldn't have happened.
With a loving and sane May by his side, Luke wouldn't have ran away. He wouldn't have met Thalia and Annabeth who would have probably died because Annabeth was 7 and didn't know how to face monsters before him and Thalia taught her and Thalia would have been outnumbered by the monsters by herself, eventually.

First scenario:
The lightning bolt wouldn't have been stolen, so the minotaur wouldn't have found Percy.
Sally wouldn't have been taken to the Underworld, but Percy would have still been found by Grover. However, without Luke - there'd be no prophecy. Percy wouldn't meet Annabeth and would spend his summer at CHB like any other demigod.
Rachel would have never found Percy and thus she would remain a clear sighted mortal with the gift of prophecy.
Nico and Bianca would've probably still stayed in the Lotus.

Second scenario:
Kronos finds another demigod willing to do what Luke did, so the bolt and the helm do get stolen.
Percy and Grover make their way to camp and Sally gets taken to the Underworld.
Annabeth isn't there, so he chooses someone else to come with him on the quest. And they most likely fail, so the war between Poseidon and Zeus destroys both the demigods and the gods, making it easy for Kronos to kill them and reshape the world as he desires.
Or if they do succeed, they'll fail next year, because while she was important in the Lightning Thief, she is essential in the Sea of Monsters.

What do you guys think? Do you think there are other scenarios? Please let me know:)

Sarah (standards raised bc of book boyfriends) | 179 comments Wow I never really realized how important may is to the story… that’s crazy once you realize it

yeah, she’s actually an important character even if we only meet her once. she kind of ties the plot together

Charlie_Hammark If she hadn't tried....this series would've never happened

yess, it’s so strange to think that things like this happen in real life too. had one small thing changed, everything would be different
