10.5 Part of Your Collection

Comic Hunters is a game about drafting cards to build a collection of comic books. With three different eras and 8 different heroes, will you have the best comic book collection?

Read a book with a main character as a superhero or vigilante.
Definitions to follow:

Vigilante: is a self-appointed doer of justice when the law fails or is inadequate.

Superhero: a character in a film or story who has superpowers and uses it to do good things and help other people

Whilst I found it on a superhero list, I would have thought it was more vigilante, so I guess I will just ask will V for Vendetta work for this task?

Would Cold Fury work for this task? I found it on a superhero list. ready the summary, the MC sounds more like a vigilante.

this one is hard to say. If she is taking down the mob than yes, if she is just running from them and hiding then no.

The summary says her parents and brother are embedded with the Chicago mob and she set out to search for them.

I was thinking of this one, if it's okay with you: Dreams of the Golden Age

Both superheroes and vigilantes are mentioned in the GR description, and it has "Superheroes" for an MPG.

They have to be fighting crime. I'm not sure what his own sense of justice means exactly.

Would this book work? Prodigal Son
The Orphan X series is all about this man, Evan Smoak, who as "The Nowhere Man" is a vigilante and helps normal people with difficult problems. It seems in this volume, he had to sign a contract to stop doing this, but is going to break this promise.

Nate has his own sense of right and wrong and has killed people without the blessing of being a policeman or connected to law enforcement, He lives off the grid and trains falcons. He is a friend of Joe Pickett who is a game warden and has been known to ask for Nates help in cases where the letter of the law won't legally get the job done,

What would you consider to be an adequate reference? This is new to me, so I'm not sure what you're looking for.

you might reference to superhero or vigilante in someone else's review of the book - that would work
OR sometimes it is in the text of the book and you could provide a quote

This one really doesn't work.

They were assassins in the past and now are trying to stay alive as someone is out to get them.

They are not currently doing any vigilant work.

Okay, I am just clarifying for my brain to process the task.

I saw that Breaking the Dark was allowed as a retired superhero and the GR description says she is avoiding that world and a reviewer of the book says she still doesn't know what her superpower is. I thought that would mean she wasn't currently using her powers, and was still considered a superhero, But I haven't read the book, so she could be using her powers again.

In my book, I was trying to find a quote to prove they were vigilantes since the GR description didn't use that word.

But it sounds like the book plot itself needs to have the vigilante bring someone to justice outside the law or the superhero actually use powers to to do good or help out, in current book time and not just the flashback chapters. Also, not just mention it as the occupation of the character but be about different events in the character's life. Is this correct?

What about Kill for Me, Kill for You? It sounds like two women seeking revenge for destroyed lives.

I have read Killers of Certain Age and they belonged to an organization of assassins and were paid to kill. This doesn't fit the vigilante definition. Which is a self appointed do-gooder not a paid killer.

I just don't see this fitting the spirit of the task.

Thanks, for some reason that explanation makes more sense to my brain for determining vigilante. They did choose to kill the bad guys that got away from the law, but only to be paid for it and not just for their own sense of justice.

For some reason this has been a very hard task for me. Would this book qualify as vigilante? It is on a GR Vigilante list and based on reviews is about a couple of serial killers who are killing only serial killers. I actually own the paperback of this and have been putting it off due to some of the content reviews, but maybe this could be the reason to get it read?

The description does not give much but if you can provide a reference to show they only kill serial killers, I would say that is being vigilatne (in a strange manor).

These are a few of the reviews I was looking at. They all talk about serial killers who kill serial killers. The second one is the only one that puts the adjective strictly in front of killing serial killers, and the third one even mentions finding it hard to think of them as being the good guy, because even though they are killing serial killers, that still makes them killers themselves.

Thanks. I was making such good progress this season and beginning to think I would never find a book to fit this task. Now I will have a fairly good chance of finishing this season.

Second choice for this task, as I'm not sure I'm going to get my first choice read. Would this be okay? It has the Superheroes MPG, and Ms. Marvel does seem to be one of the good guys (she later becomes an Avenger)
