Jen K | 3143 comments Ten people were invited to Soldier Island with the lure of a job or on recommendation of a distant friend or acquaintance. Yet when they arrive, the mysterious hosts are missing. With good food, they relax until a recording is played accusing them all of murder. The message is alarming but many argue that they were cleared of the charge. The fear doesn't really set in until they start dying one by one per a child's nursery rhyme. They are on a small island with no place to hide so is it one of the ten? No one can trust anyone else.

The story has great atmosphere on the stormy island is suitably creepy and intriguing. I didn't figure out the mystery at all. The whodunnit aspect and wondering who would be next and how was fascinating as well as the idea of delivering justice when there isn't a clear crime in the legal sense. I quite enjoyed and understand why this is a classic. I'm glad to finally read it.
