It just occurred to me: as we grow, writers will no doubt be joining our group. You need a venue at which to tell us all about your great writing, your most recent project(s). Here is the place! Please, create a topic, locate it in the author self-promotion folder, and tell us what's great about your book. You can even provide us an Amazon link if that's where your book is for sale.
Members who are interested in what other members are writing, and most of us are, I think, will be happy to engage you in the Author Self Promotion folder. For the few who view author self-promotion as spam and become offended when it's offered, all they have to do is avoid this folder.
My experience with indie writing has not on the whole been positive. It usually has typos, serious editing mistakes, and even when it doesn't then tends to have major story structure flaws of the type that keep it from becoming published by another venue, be it an anthology, an on-line e-zine, whatever--basically someone else considering the work to be of adequate quality to feature it. Therefore, please don't self-nominate your self-published work for monthly group read unless it has been vetted this way, namely featured in an anthology, printed as part of an e-zine somewhere, something like that--basically vetted by a professional in publishing, someone other than you, your friends, or your relatives, who thought your story worthwhile enough reading to feature it somewhere.
I won't be nasty about it if you misplace a self-promoting post in some other folder. I have too much respect for writers and aspiring writers to be that way. I'll just assume you didn't read this post, probably, and thus quietly move your post to this Author Self Promotion folder in the hope someone, maybe even me, engages you nicely, sympathetically, and/or constructively about your writing work.
