Science Fiction: The Short Stuff
The Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA ) define categories of science fiction solely by length:
Short stories are less than 7,500 words
Novelettes are 7,500 to 17,499 words
Novellas are 17,500 to 39,999 words, and
Novels are 40,000 words or more.
Novels are terrific, I guess, but there are plenty of groups here at GoodReads that cover the science fiction novel. Even the Classics group does on occasion! But who reads the short stuff? No one, judging by how many groups feature it.
