And the 2021 prompt for our Anniversary List is...

45. A book related to a codeword from the NATO Phonetic Alphabet

Next round of voting will go live on Sunday!

message 3: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan J | 9 comments I didn't vote for this one, but I was very close to doing so! Happy with it, it seems quite fun and inventive.

message 4: by John (new)

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 173 comments I did vote for this since I saw many links to books I want to read.

message 5: by Rosalind (new)

Rosalind | 89 comments only didn't vote for this because it seemed there'd be too many options but have since decided that's no bad thing. I seem to have loads of books on my TBR related to hotels.

message 6: by Dixie (new)

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1084 comments Very pleased with this!

message 7: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 547 comments I remember people liking this prompt when we did it in '21. This will be an easy one for me.

message 8: by Breanne (new)

Breanne (slow-and-steady) | 17 comments Yay! I wasn't member of ATY in 2021, but this is my favorite prompt from this list. Really happy with this result

message 9: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments i absolutely loved this prompt in '21, so much so that I planned to do a side challenge based on it. Unfortunately life went sideways that year and reading kind of got pushed backstage. I'm excited to see the prompt back again!

My first thought was, I might use this for a side challenge! Not sure yet but it was fun to see that someone else had had the same thought.

Shannon SA (shannonsa) | 673 comments Yay!

message 12: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments I didn’t vote for this one but I remember it was a fun one to plan for with lots of options. I’m not going down that rabbit hole this year, though!

message 13: by Jette (new)

Jette | 323 comments I'm very happy with this one. I kept the side challenge list (to read a book for each code) but never finished it. I'll use this to fill another square.

I also use "tango, papa" frequently when spelling my last name. The 'tp' combination is hard to understand.

I can't remember which one I used, I think I did the whole alphabet as a side challenge. My son works with serial numbers in his job so he regularly uses this alphabet.

I voted for this one! Even though it's a "read any book," it's a "read any book but you need to work to find a good link."

I did Incense and Sensibility cause the main character's name is India.

message 16: by Conny (last edited Aug 30, 2024 08:08AM) (new)

Conny | 646 comments I remember that in 2021 I read an apocalyptic thriller where the disappearance of the Pope (=il PAPA) set the plot in motion.
This year around, I'll probably go easy and read a book on my TBR called Novemberfeuer :D

Good idea! I do "F as in Frank" but maybe I should do Foxtrot.

message 18: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Under the Outside Challenges heading there is a thread titled NATO Alphabet where many of us set up a side challenge in 2021. Looks like only a few people actually completed it and I was not one of them. I remember doing extensive planning and now I know why!

message 19: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1152 comments This was my favourite prompt from 2021. I'm thrilled it got in.

I read Barney's Version by Mordecai Richler. He was one of Montreal, Quebec's most famous authors. The book takes place mostly in Montreal.

message 20: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 678 comments I didn't vote for this, honestly because I was too lazy to look up the words, lol. However, I'm a big Yankees' baseball fan and have several books about them on my TBR, so this'll be easy!

If anyone's interested:
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning: 1977, Baseball, Politics, and the Battle for the Soul of a City
The Journey Home: My Life in Pinstripes
The 1998 Yankees: The Inside Story of the Greatest Baseball Team Ever
Swing and a Hit: Nine Innings of What Baseball Taught Me

And I've read and enjoyed both Full Count: The Education of a Pitcher and The Closer: My Story.

message 21: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Ugh. One of my rare downvotes. And I suspect I will find something I love for it.

message 22: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments This was a prompt that I enjoyed and there are so many different directions to go in. I read 2 books for each prompt in 2021 and can't work out now how either of them connected to the prompt. I'll try to be more obvious this time.

message 23: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 348 comments This was the year I joined this club and I enjoyed this prompt then as well.

message 24: by Jill (new)

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments Pleased to see this one again. I will go for something different to last time

Which two books did you read for this one?

message 26: by Mandy (new)

One of my favorite meme's is a shot of a calendar with the words "Even the calendar says Whiskey Tango Foxtrot". :)

It's alpha, not alpha, from the Greek letter :)

message 29: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (new)

Jackie | 2450 comments Mod
Not to be pedantic but it IS "alfa" not "alpha". Per Wikipedia, "⟨Alfa⟩ and ⟨Juliett⟩ are spelled that way to avoid mispronunciation by people unfamiliar with English orthography;"

Ooh, maybe this can be revived!

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Yay, this is a fun one! I voted for it this time around, and I'm pretty sure I voted for it in 2021 when it first came up too.

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 393 comments Ha, I did The Old Man and the Sea by "Papa" Hemmingway for this one back in '21. Looking forward to picking another letter this time!
