2025 Reading Challenge discussion

This is where we will discuss the book after we start reading it in October.

I've finished Part 1 and I'm only now starting to follow the plot a little better. We are introduced to SO many characters at the beginning, and there seem to be multiple factions other than just "East" and "West."

(view spoiler)[Ead's POV is probably the easiest to follow now, though I'm still not exactly sure what her purpose is other than protecting Sabran. She is apparently undercover from the Priory to do that, and she has magic. And now she's a bedmaid.

Tané is the other storyline I like but probably just because there are dragons in it. And there are multiple factions of dragons/wyrms/wyverns too! I need a whole fact sheet on this book. (hide spoiler)]

Through Part 2.

What do you think of the characters? Ead, Sabran, Tané, Niclays, Loth? Whose decisions or personality do you relate to the most?

(view spoiler)[I like Ead but I think we're supposed to. I wish she was a little more dynamic. Her magic is interesting and the way it works it different than any other magic system. I guess she needs to replenish it with the orange tree.

I probably relate the most to Sabran. She's so anxious and she feels like she has too much relying her doing everything she needs to perfectly. I may not be a queen and the sole protector of a realm from wyrms, but I feel that anxiety. The section with her companion dying was very sad, but on top of that losing her baby and becoming barren was horrible, especially with the country's wellbeing resting atop the shoulders of her womb.

Tané: Do I still just like her because she has a dragon? She made a bad choice hiding the outsider so her choosing day would go smoothly, but I can't say I would have chosen better in that position. I'm glad she came clean to her dragon (I can't remember how its name is spelled). But what will they do? Exile? And what will become of her dragon who has been kidnapped b the Fleet of Tiger Eye?? I've also finished Part 3 but don't have a ton to say about it. (view spoiler)[The Prioress is evil. The "witch" is probably not. Ead has a special jewel and so does Tané. Things are about to get really good or really bad I think. (hide spoiler)]

So I’m just at the beginning of part 3.

I was quite confused at the beginning of reading, however, now I see how the characters are interconnected. So far I enjoy it tremendously. I like the religions and stories connected to it. I like that there is a sacred order. I obviously love there are dragons and more kinds of them. When I checked it’s 800 pages (reading it on Kindle) I got scared and exhilirated at the same time, but I really enjoy it.
