Carrie (carriele1216) | 1317 comments My shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Hello everyone! I'm Carrie from PA (near Pittsburgh). Married with 1 daughter (who recently got married!).

I love to read (obviously) and am a huge animal lover. We live in a rural area so we have a ton of wildlife. We recently had a 600 pound bear give us a visit! We have indoor cats and we had a Westie who recently passed away from bone cancer (at the amazing age of 16). We have yet to get another dog but we know one will find us.

Favorite reading genres are mystery, thriller, nordic noir, horror and crime but I'll read just about anything. I am not a romance fan though.

Hobbies besides reading: Speed Puzzling, traveling and watching football!

Icebreaker: Dusting - where does all the dust come from????? I swear I can wipe something off and 10 minutes later the dust has magically reappeared!!!

message 12: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Righty-o! Is it weird that I was actually paying a bill (thankfully, not long overdue!), while looking at a Bougainville, dreaming of a summer in Brazil, as I got slotted in this team? Do the Mods know something we don't? :O

So, I'm Apoorv (he/him), currently living in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and I am beyond thrilled to do another round of Wheels. This will be my 8th Wheel-a-thon (missed the 6th edition, ugh! - probably was paying another of these bills during that sign up, bah!).

And what a team we have this time around! I have in fact been on Teams with a fair few of you, so it makes it more fun to be amongst friends. And I get to make new friends as well. Best part of these challenges. :)

And and we have got a kickass captain this time around in Ashley (which is great, because then I can just sit and look pretty! :P) - but seriously, look at the gorgeous spreadsheet she has created. I bet the challenge will go swimmingly when tracking is made so smooth. But, of course, if you have any questions at all at any time during the challenge, please don't hesitate to ask them (simple ones to me, difficult ones to Ashley - please and thank you :P)

I am chuffed to be here and excited to know about all of you and have lots of fun for the next 3 months.
YAAY! :D

🌟 Icebreaker Question: 🌟
If you could magically eliminate one boring chore from your life forever, which one would it be and why? 🧹✨
Honestly, none! I love doing chores! :=| (said no one ever!)
It probably would be deep cleaning appliances. Because, that seems to be the one thing that I keep putting off more than the other tasks.

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1317 comments Love the meme 😂

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments 🌟 Icebreaker Question Response 🌟

If I could magically eliminate one boring chore from my life forever, it would definitely be laundry! Ugh, I absolutely hate it. It’s just the worst! There are way too many steps involved—sorting (like I’m some kind of laundry wizard), washing (which always feels like a mini science experiment), drying (where I pray my socks don’t mysteriously vanish), folding (a task that somehow turns into an Olympic sport), and then putting everything away (only to find out I’ve created a new mountain of clothes on my chair).

It feels like a never-ending cycle that I can never quite finish! I mean, who actually enjoys spending their time doing laundry? If I could wave a magic wand and make it disappear from my to-do list forever, I would be over the moon! Just imagine having all that extra time to do something fun instead. So, laundry, consider yourself banished! 🧙‍♀️✨

Speed Puzzling! What an exciting concept! I really enjoy puzzles too, but I must admit, I'm more of an obsessive puzzler than a speedy one—just ask my friends!

As for dusting, I can relate. It's such a hassle, especially since I'm allergic to dust and end up breaking out in hives. Not a pleasant experience at all!

Natasha | 1140 comments Here's my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Hello everyone. My name's Natasha and I'm from New Jersey in the United States. I'm a librarian. Besides reading, I enjoy playing video games, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching cooking shows, hiking, playing with my pets, and doing nature photography.

My favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, history, science, physics, nature, and historical fiction (1800s and earlier).

I've done a number of wheel challenges.

🌟 Icebreaker Question: 🌟
If you could magically eliminate one boring chore from your life forever, which one would it be and why? 🧹✨
Vacuuming. I have a German Shepherd (used to have two, but he passed away a couple months ago) who sheds a lot.

message 17: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments Speed puzzling sounds exciting! I can do puzzles pretty fast, but have never tried to do it competitively. I have way too many jigsaw puzzles at home (80+) and trying to put them together so I can donate them. I'm currently working on a 500 piece puzzle of cats in a barn.

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Hey hey!

I could honestly just say "DITTO" to everything Carrie wrote because we are so alike—twinning without even knowing it, and I LOVE that! 👯‍♀️

I'm Roe, reppin’ the Midwest (Iowa to be exact). I’m married with one daughter, who—get this—hates reading! I’m convinced she’s from another planet (Mars, probably) because how could she not love books?? 📚👽

I’m an animal lover through and through, living on 5 acres with a whole zoo! We've got Coco Chanel (our rabbit), Jack (the horse), and our cat duo Katin and Scout. Then there’s the dog squad: Boris, Natasha, Cain, Perdy, Asher, and Finn—who collectively make my least favorite chore, sweeping, a daily workout. 🧹🐾

My go-to reads are thrillers, horror, and mysteries, and I’ve got a soft spot for true crime. Romance? Meh. Smut? No, thanks! But hey, I’ll try anything once. When I’m not reading, you can find me snapping pics for the local newspaper or volunteering at the historical society museum. Retirement’s gonna be a blast, just wait! 😎

Nice to meet you all!

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Hi all! I haven't played any NBRC games in a couple years due to moving cross country and dealing with my crazy work schedule but glad to be back!!

I am currently living in Charleston, SC but kept my job as an Office Manager of law firm in LA so I work weird hours and fly to LA for one week every month. So yea, after 3 years, I'm still not used to this schedule and hope to change that soon. But this also means that I can't read nearly as much as I used to. Plus, don't have the commute to listen to audios anymore :(

My favorite genre is Fantasy. Like some romance and mystery too. Hate non-fiction and only read if I really need to.

Glad to be playing with all of you!

I would agree with laundry! I must admit that after apt living all my life (until moving to Charleston), finally having a house is a lot. So I had to hire someone to come clean because it was too much for me to do myself. But laundry is the one remaining task that is all me.

Yes! Columns O:U (this will most likely extend based on the words assigned) will be for letter reasoning. At the top, the darker of the oranges will be the letters and the (x1), etc. will be how many we need for each complete spell out.

I added the word "LETTERS" to the Round 1 Tab so you can visualize. Under E is (x2) because we need that letter twice, and so on.

I put an example book in and added the possibilities too.

Does that help?

I know and am friends with several of you, and I'm looking forward to getting to know the others of you. I'm definitely not new to Wheels and it's one of my very favorite challenges. I'm SO happy to be on this specific team!

For those who've played with me before and have heard it 101 times, I'm sorry not sorry but here goes...I'm happily married, have 5 children, 22 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Hubby and I live alone with our two dogs, Rocky (lab and border collie mix) who is 14 and CRAZY Daisy who is a 1 year old Havanese and she's just SO much fun! We lost our other two dogs Buddy and Jazzy. Buddy was 12 and he died about 10 years ago and Jazzy died last November 1...both broke our hearts.

I'm a retired English teacher of 25 years. I taught freshman English, multicultural literature to seniors, and yearbook. I'm loving traveling, spending a LOT more time with my grandkids, and yet I absolutely miss having students. I don't miss the red tape!

Can't wait to get to know you all and CRUSH Wheels!

Katie H | 63 comments Howdy! I’m Katie and am excited to get going on these spellouts. I live in SE Texas with my husband, 4 kids and assorted menagerie of 12 chickens, 2 parakeets, 2 guinea pigs, 2 dogs and one 10 day old kitten that we found cold and abandoned in our rabbit barn that has around 250 show rabbits. The kids are all in the teenager/preteen portion of their lives and we are living in the chaos that all that entails.

I enjoy reading, crochet, photography and wine…lots of wine…did I mention that the four teen/preteen kids are two sets of twins? Yep, lots of wine. Just kidding (mostly). It’s actually lots of reading with a little bit of wine.

My favorite books to read are pretty much any type of romance. I can go from clean to smut, regency to contemporary. Not the biggest fan of paranormal, but those werewolves make that subgenre a little easier to venture into.

I’m super excited that one of my 13-year-olds loves to read, too. I’m constantly catching her reading after bedtime and must be the stern mean parent, telling her to go to sleep, while I secretly do the cha-cha inside.

🌟 Icebreaker Question: 🌟
If you could magically eliminate one boring chore from your life forever, which one would it be and why? 🧹✨
My most hated chore is dusting. Ugh!! I make sure to not have a lot of decorative stuff lying around so I don’t have to dust it.
Curiously, my favorite boring chore is cleaning baseboards. There’s something about scooting around the perimeter all the rooms with a damp rag, making them shine while getting all the puppy kisses as the dogs get all excited to have one of their humans down on their level.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Roe, the SS is currently in VIEW mode only so we can't add anyway. I assume that our captain will change that soon.

Ashley or Apoorv, do our X's have to come from the beginning of the title or AFN or ALN or can the be anywhere in the title? The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern is a book I have that I could use for X if it can be anywhere in the title.

Also, will the SS be open to add books to claim soon for the letters?

A reminder to anyone who might not realize or forgot that we need to add the checkmark to the box to "notify me when people comment" so we get notifications. :)

Since I was too tired to read this entire thread last night, here's this:

🌟 Icebreaker Question: 🌟
If you could magically eliminate one boring chore from your life forever, which one would it be and why? 🧹✨

I literally HATE unpacking from vacations and we go on quite a few 10 days and shorter 3-4 day mini-vacays. The reason I hate it is because I simply am lazy, I guess. I just hate having to put everything away! Doing laundry and putting it away is different, but I don't know why. I will leave my suitcase with things in it forever because I hate it...yep, embarrassing to admit. My hubby will verify this because he hates that I don't put it up immediately because HE does! lol

A few lines down is the tracking sheet link for us to fill out.

Also the rules said it has to be the first letter :

How a "spell it out" works
Find the letters needed using the first letter in:
◈ book / series title*
◈ author first/last name
◈ FICTION ONLY: character name**
◈ If listening to the audio book: audio narrator first/last name
◈ If you are reading a translation: translator first/last name

* if the first word in the title/series is a definite or indefinite article you can ignore them if you prefer
** characters must be significant to the plot. you can use first, last or nickname.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Roe, Jeez, I should've realized. lol Thank you, I found the right one I need. I've never see the SS set up the way this one is so it's different but pretty cool. :)

And for non-fiction you only get the title and the authors first and last name. So only three options.
