When you need a break from science and math, what else do you read? Do you read fiction or other nonfiction?

I go through phases. Sometimes I read science fiction, sometimes fantasy. Lately I've been reading crime fiction (mysteries, but not cozies), and some political nonfiction. In fact, I usually have at least three books going at the same time, but I've been in something of a reading slump recently.

I'll read anything that isn't religious or self-help. At the moment, I'm reading a murder mystery, two history books, a book that was nominated for a Pulitzer, a book about domestic politics, and I'm listening to a memoir.

I try pretty much everything. I'm in a Goodreads group where we are reading one Agatha Christie per month until we finish her entire catalogue of full length mysteries. We are only a year off from finishing now. Time flies! I've also started reading the Perry Mason mysteries with my Grandmother in order and we are on book number 23.

I have been growing into Science Fiction ever since reading The Martian by Andy Weir. After finishing that book I remember not wanting to read any other book because I knew it would not be as good. Took me a while to get over that one. Next up is to read everything I can get my hands on by Isaac Asimov. His joy for writing comes through on the page and I love his work.

And I could continue to list favorite comfort authors I keep coming back to: Jane Austen, Jayne Ann Krentz, P.G. Wodehouse, and I have even read the Bible though not in the order presented.
