15.3 Mysterious and Wise

Chinese New Year 2025 is January 29- February 16. It is the Year of the Snake. Of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac, the sixth animal, the snake is the most mysterious and also the wisest. The Snake’s lucky colors are red, black and yellow and their lucky numbers are 2, 8 and 9.

Choose an option.
Required: State the option

Option 1: Two-book task
Book 1: Read a book with a cover with at least 75 percent of any combination of these THREE colors, RED BLACK AND YELLOW according to Tineye. All colors must be present (the percentage of each color is not important as long as they add up to 75 percent.)
Complete directions for using Tineye can be found here: "How Do I Use Tineye?
Required: Post the Cover

Book 2:
Read a book with at least 2 different lucky numbers (2, 8 and 9) in the page count.

Option 2: One-book task
Read a single book that satisfies both criteria for option 1.

Do you have any suggestions or could you point me to a list? I spent the last hour going through my TBR and browsing elsewhere and have found just one that I might read.

I found one that works for the colors but it doesn't also match the numbers.

I am not sure what kind of books you like but this one matches both and on kindle unlimited.

Thank you for the suggestion. I checked and it's not available through my library, also not a genre I prefer to read. I read pretty eclectically, but avoid Thriller, Suspense, and Paranormal if at all possible. I have Cozy Mystery and Historical Fiction.

I might switch to After Dark since I can get it on Kindle Unlimited. That would be one less book and I wasn't finding one in my lists that fit both criteria.

Jessica S | 289 comments Hi, For the cover, does it matter what edition I read or is it okay as long as one cover meets the percentages?

the cover of the edition you read must meet meet the requirements.

Jessica S | 289 comments Sorry JenRenee. Can you please edit the wording so people know the color brown can be used? I've spent so long looking for a book 75% black, yellow and red. If I had known we could use brown It would have saved me lots of time. Also does orange count as that's a mix of red and yellow?

I am not sure I understand. Brown is not in the color list for the 75 percent.

The cover needs to be 75 percent of red black and yellow. So no orange or brown wouldn't work.

Jessica S | 289 comments I was confused by your completion post? I had found books where it looks black but Tineye said it was brown. You said it needs to be 75% red, yellow and black according to Tineye.

I couldn't find anything so checked what everyone else had read and you posted:

Read a book with a cover with at least 75 percent of any combination of these THREE colors, RED BLACK AND YELLOW according to Tineye.
and Read a book with at least 2 different lucky numbers (2, 8 and 9) in the page count.

read Smile Behind the Lens of the ‘Dating Game Killer’ (True Crime) by Ryan Green Smile: Behind the Lens of the ‘Dating Game Killer’

129 pages
50.8 %#110303Black
14.2 %#55151bBrown
9.0 %#eee81aYellow
8.3 %#8a2226Red

I'll just read this one if you've made an approval for it.

Reviewing mod here. I see what's happened - there's another line of red at 7.0 that was missed off the post, but I managed to verify when I checked it in TinEye. Looking purely at the required colours, the breakdown is as follows:

50.8 %#110303Black
9.0 %#eee81aYellow
8.3 %#8a2226Red
7.0 %#c22c30Red
1.1 %#c2b92aYellow

Total of 76.2% for Smile: Behind the Lens of the ‘Dating Game Killer’.

Does that help clear things up?

Jessica S | 289 comments Ahhh thanks for clearing that up. I was so confused. Thought I'd misunderstood and it included colours that can be made from those colours 😂 I'll be reading this book then.

For what it's worth, if you're into sci-fi at all, I have Hidden Empire (The Saga of Seven Suns, #1) by Kevin J. Anderson earmarked for this one if I get around to it. "If" being the operative word!

Could I confirm Razor Girl (Andrew Yancy, #2) by Carl Hiaasen for book 2?
52.3 %#fbe541Yellow
15.3 %#c73c2fRed
8.9 %#ddcc59Yellow
3.9 %#17212eBlack

It looks like 80.4% to me, but if I read it, I'm sure it will change before I post (lol).

I get those same numbers when I check Tineye
