I read this book in 2007. It's very possible my memory on some of the details are not exactly accurate. might be young adult. not sure
I remember the protagonists starting out at a castle. I think the main protagonist had a sidekick (named Bear but I'm not sure) Then the protagonists went on a journey. There was a mystic enchanted island in the middle of a forest. They encountered an evil one eyed count ????. At the end they encountered the main evil one in a dark fortress (i think they had to sneak in). There might have been scrying involved.

I briefly thought it might be this Acacia: The War with the Mein BUT IT IS NOT

Was the main character male or female? Approximate age?
