A Book with a Title That Starts with the Letter Y

I really wanted to get to Yellowface by R.F. Kuang this year, but didn't make it, so this will be my selection for this 2025 prompt! Perfect!

Goodreads Listopia for help:
Best Books Beginning with the Letter Y

A Wikipedia listing to help:

Listopia is HERE

Chelsea (chelseanotchels) | 55 comments Yerba Buena is one I'm reading this month (I'm doing a repeating alphabet challenge to read down my TBR).

You Can't Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have to Explain for nonfiction.

Yours Truly for romance.

Laura Ruth Loomis | 234 comments The Yellow House is a really interesting memoir about New Orleans before & after Hurricane Katrina.

Would also work for the "2 books that share a title" prompt with Patricia Falvey's The Yellow House.

The Yearling ... "

I read The Yearling for school back in junior high and I am SO SORRY I picked that book. I strongly caution you against it unless you like really sad stories that will make you cry, like Old Yeller and Stone Fox and Where the Red Fern Grows.

message 10: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments It's hard to say what letters the books on my TBR start with, since every time we have a letter challenge I have almost no books with that letter. At some point, my letter has to be up, right?

On my TBR at this time:
Youngbloods - would be my top choice but is 4th in the series so I should go back and see if there is a way to slot the other 3 books in prompts

Your Brain at Work: Strategies for Overcoming Distraction, Regaining Focus, and Working Smarter All Day Long - I probably need to read this one lol

Books I've read and recommend:
Yesterday's Florida Keys
You Get What You Get
You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation
Year One
Yes Please
You Sang to Me
You

If you are ok with books that start with The, here are a few more recommendations:
The Young Black Stallion
The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country
The Year of Fog

AHHHHHH good to know Nadine.

Elsa | 46 comments If anyone is looking for a romance, I read You, Again last year and devoured it in a day.

I just read youthjuice and thought it was funny and kind of ridiculous and also gross.

You'd Look Better as a Ghost is about a serial killer who starts being blackmailed by someone in her grief support group. So ridiculous and fun.

For nonfiction, The Yards Between Us: A Memoir of Life, Love, and Football is a memoir by the first openly bisexual NFL player.

Kenya Starflight | 985 comments Your Shadow Half Remains is on my TBR... let's give this a shot...

message 14: by Deb (new)

Deb | 51 comments I haven't read it yet but if you want a romance, I'm going to read 'You, With a View" ... it might be considered a road trip too. I'm assuming.

Haha, I feel this. Like really, I've read all my Y books already? How dare I?!

I do have Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? on my TBR but that's about it.

Ron | 2708 comments Pre-ordered a book a while back that's finally being released in January that I'm excited for and it makes this prompt easy:

Y2K How the 2000s Became Everything by Colette Shade
Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything

"Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded" sounds awesome based on the title alone. Not surprised to see that it's Scalzi.

The Pampered Librarian | 165 comments I read Y is for Yesterday. Never read anything by Sue Grafton before. On one side it was refreshing with action taking place in the 1980s without the omnipresent Internet; on the other hand, the topics/crimes discussed in it were disgusting and the timeline in present day to the protagonist was way more entertaining to me. It was an OK read.

Ron | 2708 comments Just started this one yesterday:

Y2K How the 2000s Became Everything by Colette Shade
Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything

I've read the introduction and chapter 1. Already love this book. As a millennial, I grew up in the 90s/00s so this book is neat. It's kind of depressing, but that's to be expected because it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies and the future we were told would happen.

message 23: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2708 comments Finished my book for this prompt:

Y2K How the 2000s Became Everything by Colette Shade
Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything

Rating: 4 (actually a 3.5 but GR doesn't do half ratings)

My Review: This book was depressing as hell! What kept me interested in it was the nostalgia factor. As a millennial, it was nice to be reminded of some of the good things from back then. But seriously, millennials got screwed over and this author isn't afraid to show that fact. Not our fault, but still.

It was the nostalgia that led me to give it a 4-star rating. I actually would give it a 3.5 but GR doesn't do half stars and it wasn't that bad for 3-star.
