Goodreads Choice Award Challenge 2025


The group challenge is to read as many nominees and award winners of the Goodreads Choice Awards 2024 as possible.

Creating Your Shelf
To participate in the Choice Awards Challenge, you will need to have a special shelf dedicated to the challenge. To do this, go to your bookshelf (click on “my books” to get there). Below your list of bookshelves on the lefthand side of the page, click on “add shelf”. Chose a name for your shelf that will let you know it is your challenge shelf (whatever name you want), Save the shelf.


Adding Books to Your Challenge Shelf
Check out the nominees and award winners below and add the ones you want to read/read to your challenge shelf. There are a couple of ways to do this. Please note that you can choose to add the book any one of the three ways below, just choose the way that you find easiest. You do not have to do all three.

To start with, go to the books page. Then, from the book page:

* Click on the 'want to read' under the book cover icon, and then 'continue to tags', and then choose the shelf you've assigned to the challenge.

* If you have already read the book or added it to your “to-read” shelf, then below the book cover icon click on 'edit my activity'. This will take you to the review page where you can 'choose shelves', which will cause a drop down menu to appear and again you simply check off the shelf that you have assigned to the challenge.

*Alternatively, If you have already added the book to your bookshelf, you can search for the book in 'my books' and under the column titled “shelves” next to the book you want to add to the challenge, it will list the shelves that the book is currently on. Just below the list of shelves, you can click “edit” and a drop down menu to appear and again you simply check off the shelf that you have assigned to the challenge.


Joining the Challenge
Next go to the challenge page HERE
Enter your goal and the bookshelf to which you'll add the nominees and award winners (the one you just created above). Make sure to copy the shelf name exactly. Save again!


Participating
This is the best part! To participate all you need to do is read the books you have chosen! After you have read a book, make sure to mark it as read.

If the book is marked as read between January 1st, 2024 (yes 2024 is correct, because you already might have read some of the nominees / winners) and December 31st 2025 and you have added it to your challenge shelf, it will automatically count toward this challenge.


Trouble-shooting
If you read your book and it did not count towards your challenge, there are a couple of things you can do.

First, make sure that you have added the book to your assigned shelf.

Next, make sure that you have set the “read” date accurately. When you mark a book as read you can set the date. Usually, it will automatically assign the read date to the day you mark it off, but occasionally this doesn’t happen. If you’re having trouble, just make sure you set the “read” date to “today”.

I just went through the list and added books to my challenge shelf. This is the fewest number of books I have added to my shelf since the first year I did the challenge (2013) and I have added a 'maybe read' shelf since then, which I added several of these books to today.

I have only read 12 (plus 1984, but years ago, not the new audio version), I have 14 on my TBR, 8 on my maybe read shelf, and 1 that I am currently reading - totaling 36 on my shelves, including 1984, which won't count for the challenge. Not very encouraging for my challenge this year.

I'm so so disappointed in myself! lol
I have already read 50 but I have 55 on my TBR List and I own almost all of them!! 😭😭😭

but I'm catching up on my Netgalley this year and next so hopefully 2025 is my year to read more of my TBR and get through more of these books!

lol, Trisha, yes 50 is SO disappointing! ;) (Did you see my 12? lol) I'm sure you'll have that 55 read in 2025!

Great job Lynn getting all the books placed. The only thing I see is a misspelling of ROMANTASY in the category title.

This year I have read 11 with 6 of those from the mystery/thriller category.
I have put 20 MORE on my TBR.
My goal is a total of 22 by the end of next year.

I set myself a high goal in 2024 of 100 books that were on the 2023 list, and I've read 94 of them so far. I can't be too upset that I only read 34 of the books on this years list. It would help if I knew ahead of time what the books were going to be nominated. lol I am making both NetGalley and the Choice Awards books my priority this year. Wish me luck because I also try to read a lot of books for the current year but it's all guess work.
