For me, my favorite technothriller read of 2024 was:
Artificial Wisdom by Thomas Weaver (2023)
Artificial Wisdom by Thomas R. Weaver Thomas R. Weaver

My favorite technothriller actually published in 2024 was:
Extinction by Douglas Preston (2024)
Extinction by Douglas Preston Douglas Preston

Extinction was entertaining, but not great. I feel like it generally takes 5 years to 10 years to determine with some stability what was the best book from a given year. Why is a good question. It seems to me that many people rate whatever they read as great. I’m not sure why that bias exists, and like to think I’m not as prone to it. But it takes years sometimes for readers to go back and read other books and for the good stuff to separate from the not so good. And, that doesn’t always happen. And, Goodreads demographics are strongly skewed younger and female, which is obvious from the kind of thing that floats to the top of lists. Technothrillers readers in contrast are mostly male, and somewhat stratified by age. Anyway, it’s the end of the year, and seems like an interesting thing to do, to weigh in on the best books published or read that year.

Jed Henson | 69 comments My favorite technothriller read of 2024 was hands-down The Day Before Midnight by Stephen Hunter. It's an older book (1980s), but if you like military-techno thrillers like The Hunt for Red October, it's a must-read. Super intense/build, great characters, lots of tech.
