Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas last year and a Tetris game. I’m a retro gamer girl 🤓 Anyway, while I was playing I thought the board would make a fun challenge idea. But, instead of coming up with requirements for it I thought it’d be fun to see what y’all came up with to challenge yourselves.

So, here’s the board and pieces. What would you assign to each piece of your challenge? Would you run it for a year, a month?

Some ideas to get your creative juices flowing …
- # of pages read in a sitting/day
- length of time spent reading
- different genres read
- alpha breakdown for author names, series or titles
- format read (paperback, kindle, audio, etc)
- mix & match

Victoria (nemerith) | 1199 comments Okay... I've spent waaaaaay too long contemplating this challenge to not actually do it, lol 🤣

I tried finding a randomizer that actually shows the blocks but wasn't successful. So I figured I'd just number them instead and use a randomizer just for the numbers.

I was debating only using 7 out of the 9 depicted blocks (as there are 2 doubles), but for this round.. I'll go all out!

Here goes (Google Spreadsheets ftw)!

SOS Challenge Yourself - Tetris Style

START: 01/01/2025
END: until GAME OVER

Blocks and what they represent:
(view spoiler)

1: read a book from a new-to-you author
2: read a standalone
3: start or finish a series
4: read a book from the first half of a series (but not the first)
5: read a book from the second half of a series (but not the last)
6: read a book you have had the longest on your TBR shelf (pick between the first 5)
7: read a book you have had the shortest on your TBR shelf (pick between the last 5)
8: read a book from one of your favorite authors
9: reread a book

Bonus when wiping out a line: buy a book that's not on KU
Lines wiped out:

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Oh yeah, that's the beat that can't be beat 😆 We watched the movie earlier this year and loved it. I recommend it. (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12758060/)

Good lookin' challenge plan! Happy gamin'!

Jessica | 14 comments I want to take part as well, because I love creative things. This is right up my alley…

Challenge Yourself - Tetris Style Challenge
Duration: 01 Jan. 2025 - 31 Dec. 2025
Rules
- read books fitting the tetris pieces to complete the grid
Read: 0/open ended

The pieces and their significance:
1 - read a book from my physical TBR
2 - read a book by a new-to-you author
3 - finish a series (as far as I own the books)
4 - read a book of a rarely read genre (cultural fiction, literary fiction, chick lit, fantasy, classic, „for school“)
5 - read a book by a favourite author
6 - read a big chunkster (450+ pages)
7 - read a book of a frequently read genre (contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, urban fantasy)

What happens if a line is wiped out: Add a line at the top + ?

Yep, that way you'll always have the same amount of lines to fill (well... until 'Game Over') or you can just keep adding lines when you get to the top till the end of your game
