It's time to nominate your choice for our February and March 2025 group non-fiction read - please use this thread to nominate.

Nominations start today and will close on 11th January or when we filled the poll with six books.

During this time anybody can nominate and second one book each. The 6 books with the most second votes at the end of the 7 day nomination period will go into the poll. There are no limits to the number of seconds a book can receive, however please be mindful of this as the polls are not filling up as quickly anymore.

The poll will then run until the 18th January and the winner will be announced shortly after. I hope this will leave everybody with enough time to obtain the chosen book.

Please only nominate, second or vote for a book you will read with the group if it should win. Please also check that your chosen nomination hasn't been a group read in the past. You can do this by looking at the group bookshelf, contact one of the moderators or post on 'Ask the Moderators' thread.

If you have any questions on the nominations process please contact me, use the 'Ask the Moderators' thread or post on here and we will be happy to help.

Virginia (Ginny) McDavid | 1 comments How I Learned to Speak Israel: An American’s Guide to a Foreign Policy Language by Alex McDonald. This is a very timely book with the situation in Israel/Palestine and McDonald artfully deconstructs narratives we have been led to believe in the West for decades. If you feel helpless about the situation as do I, this book is a must-read to equip yourself with additional knowledge to make a fair assessment of the conflict and what we can all do about it.

Hi Ginny, glad to have you here!

My only concern about this nomination based on the very low number of Goodreads reviews (7 ratings, 2 reviews) is whether the book is easily available worldwide for all our members. We have members in several different countries that participate.

Alannah, when you get a chance, can you check if this book is available in the UK in your library systems or by some other method? Is this book easily accessible to members in your region?

That would be great Nidhi! My work is more predictable now; so I am better able to commit. Really sorry I disappeared during the IQ84 read!

Nidhi Kumari | 432 comments Yes Greg. You vanished like Ariel. lol And I am now not motivated enough to finish it. It's great story and construction but it seems I more demanding when it comes to literature.

It seems to be available only on Amazon. Due to the low numbers on GoodReads, I wouldn't be able to accept this one, Ginny, sorry. You are welcome to nominate another book.

That's no problem Erica, as long as you've provided the author.

I would love to join you. I touched upon the Austro-Hungarian Empire during my last history modules. I would love to revisit it.
