Lisa | 274 comments Hello Everyone, I'm Lisa your co-captain for this year's UNO challenge! I think it is my fourth year playing UNO and second year co-captaining. I am excited for the game to start and to meet all of you.

I live in Ohio (USA) and have two cats. Besides reading, I like to quilt and cross stitch. I work night shift, so my sleep schedule is a bit messed up and you may find me on goodreads at any time of the day.

Let us know if you have any questions.

message 8: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Hello all! This is your Captain speaking and this is my 7th year for UNO and 4th as Captain. I follow the philosophy that we should read whatever books want that count so the only books we will claim are the color cards. And while I am not a chatty person naturally I will respond all posts so please feel feee to post as much as you want. Although it must be noted that I work nights so the response might be a bit delayed until the evening hours.

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 16 comments Hi everyone checking in! This is my 2nd time playing UNO. btw, I'm Christene from PH, a mom of 1 and working as an Occupational Therapist. I usually read fantasy, thrillers and romance. Nice meeting you all. Looking forward to playing Uno with you guys.

message 10: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Hi everyone, checking in and looking forward to playing with you all :) I'm based in the UK, have 2 cats and enjoy reading a wide variety of genres. I've played UNO for the last few years and have been hoarding my colour covers throughout the year :D

message 11: by Cindy (last edited Jan 22, 2025 05:55AM) (new)

Cindy | 153 comments Hello everyone! This is my 6th year playing uno. I live in Colorado with my husband and kids. I have two daughters aged 3 yrs and 11 months so life can be a little crazy sometimes. I work in a hospital pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. I read pretty much everything. Not a huge fan of horror though. My favored genres are probably romance and fantasy

message 12: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice | 21 comments Hi everyone! I'm Beatrice and this is my first time playing UNO. I'm really looking forward to playing with you all! ☺️ I live in Italy and enjoy reading across genres, even though recently I've been gravitating more towards fantasy and cosy reads.
I'm in the middle of writing my thesis for uni at the moment, so days have been a bit full and hectic as I try to balance that with work and getting it all done before the deadline... which is coming up very fast 😅 But I'll still be found procrastinating decompressing on Goodreads every day haha

message 13: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Welcome all! UNO is my favorite yearly challenge and I do the same hoarding with color covers! I will be posting a team tracking spreadsheet at the top of the thread sometime this weekend. Just a reminder that the Team Spreadsheet is the official game spreadsheet and only the captain and co-captain request access. The tracking spreadsheet is not required for team members to enter their books. It is very helpful particularly at the end of the months so we don't have wasted books though.
And Beatrice everything makes a lot more sense once we start playing but if anything doesn't make sense just ask.

message 14: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments I will also post the color cards for February right before we start but we can start claiming those at any time.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it :)

message 16: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 274 comments Finding books for the color cards (or mini challenges) is one of my favorite parts of UNO! Here's a list of the color cards we'll need in February:
🟥 2 Red
🟥 3 Red
🟥 5 Red
🟦 3 Blue
🟦 5 Blue
🟦 7 Blue
🟩 4 Green
🟩 9 Green

Going through my TBR, I could easily do
Funny Story - 3 Blue (ALN = Henry),
The Wake-Up Call - 5 Blue (CFN = Izzy),
or The Final Gambit - 3 Red (3rd in series).
I'm not wed to any of these books yet, though, so if anyone else has their eye on one of these color cards for a book they want to read, feel free to claim it. Plus we have four wild draw four cards, which means we'll need to repeat four of the color cards as well. Next week I'll have a little more time to look for books that work for the other cards and I'll plan on claiming something that's still open then.

message 17: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments I have a book for 5 Red and 9 Green.

message 18: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 153 comments I can read: Not My Type : Golden Girls 1 for blue 7
Funny Story blue 3
Imperfect Chemistry red 5

message 19: by JL (new)

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments Hey Team! Jillian here from Michigan. This will be my 5th year playing Uno. I read mostly Romance, but like the occasional thriller or mystery. I live with my two sons and my two dogs. I work as a secretary/office assistant at a steel company. Excited to get started.

message 20: by Kamaria (new)

Kamaria (bonniegealach) | 83 comments Hey hey team, I'm Kamaria and I'm currently playing for the fourth time? I believe. I mostly read fantasy! Let's hope we win this year.

message 21: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Welcome! I like the idea of winning again this year. I’m still looking to make a hat trick of UNO wins!

message 22: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments The team tracking spreadsheet has been added to the top of the thread. And again it is not required that everyone add their books to this but it is the easiest way for all of the team to see what everyone else is reading. And this is the only spreadsheet that everyone will request access.

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 274 comments I'm going to remove a couple of the color cards under my name on the spreadsheet - I hadn't meant to claim all of them right away, more to get the discussion started and I want everyone to have a chance to get one that works for them. I'll claim a second card if there's any left after everyone has a chance. :)

message 24: by JL (new)

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments I requested access but it's still saying access denied.

message 25: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Hi, requested access for tracking spreadsheet too :)
Looking forward to starting !

message 26: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Sorry y’all- Gmail was apparently malfunctioning yesterday as it kept kicking me out so it didn’t accept access. It should be good now but let me know if it still doesn’t work.

message 27: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice | 21 comments It works for me! Thanks :)

message 28: by Shaw (last edited Jan 30, 2025 09:30PM) (new)

Shaw | 923 comments With one day, 3 hours and 29 minutes left until UNO starts we still have four color covers not claimed. And again it is not a requirement for any team member to read color covers as this is a read what counts and what you want team but if any of those highly anticipated books on those TBR lists count for this month's color covers just throw them out on the thread. And two of those unclaimed are Wild Draw 4 cards so if if a color cover is claimed we can duplicate every one except the 3 Blue and 5 Red.

message 29: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Will take a look at the last coloured cards, I should have something lurking in my TBR pile :D

message 30: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Ready for take-off as the game begins!

message 31: by Kamaria (new)

Kamaria (bonniegealach) | 83 comments I'll be joining the game and requesting for access starting Monday, as I don't have my pc with me and the GR app on the phone can't open links.

christene_littlelibrary (cpaulanavarro) | 16 comments Shaw wrote: "Babylon 5 Team Tracking Spreadsheet

Request zent

message 33: by JL (new)

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments So frustrating, I found a couple books that look like they are over 50% red and would fit for the last free red card, but according to tiny Eye, even though it looks red it's not red!

message 34: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments This is why I hate Tin Eye so much! But if there are any you really want to read we can vote on them or if they are on the UNO red list from the thread it counts cuz those have been validated already.

message 35: by JL (new)

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments Shaw wrote: "This is why I hate Tin Eye so much! But if there are any you really want to read we can vote on them or if they are on the UNO red list from the thread it counts cuz those have been validated already."

So, the one I went with works perfectly, House on Fire by Bonnie Kistler , The Kindle version's cover is over 50% red, but I am listening to the audio which is the same cover, but Tiny Eye says it's only 48.5% red. Does that still work?

message 36: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Yes cuz not only is that close enough but we can always use default edition for audiobooks and that one is 62.6 so it’s good.

message 37: by JL (new)

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments Shaw wrote: "Yes cuz not only is that close enough but we can always use default edition for audiobooks and that one is 62.6 so it’s good."

Awesome, thanks Shaw! Definitely not a fan of Tiny Eye.

message 38: by Shaw (last edited Feb 06, 2025 08:53PM) (new)

Shaw | 923 comments It makes me question my eyesight every year and makes me want to schedule another color blindness test. Lol

message 39: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Dawn - can you confirm that the Dagger and the Flame has a character named Theo? I like that for the 2 Red better. I’m a little OCD like that.

message 40: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Yes Theo exists ! Lots of dialogue too so definitely a notable character

message 41: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Excellent!

message 42: by Kamaria (new)

Kamaria (bonniegealach) | 83 comments I requested to edit but I didn't get accepted yer, did I apply to. The wrong sheet?

message 43: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Idk but I don’t have any new requests in my email.

message 44: by Kamaria (new)

Kamaria (bonniegealach) | 83 comments Hmm, let me try again

message 45: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 923 comments Now that UNO has started just a quick reminder that every team member must post in the team thread at least once a week. It can be just a simple Hi or a dancing emoji or Status: Reading but it must be some sort of comment. We also understand that life sometimes happens so if for any reason you will be unable to post during a week please let us know by posting in the thread or by messaging me or Lisa.

message 46: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 274 comments I can't believe we're already a week in! I have had a slow start. Last weekend was packed for me and this week at work has been a bit busy, but I plan on finishing my first book within the next 24 hours - it will be one of the blue color cards. Then I'll start reading my red color card book. I should have more time to read next week.

message 47: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 153 comments I have finished one of my color cards and will get it logged once I have a chance to jump on my lap top

message 48: by Shaw (last edited Feb 07, 2025 06:52AM) (new)

Shaw | 923 comments No hurry - I can just get it from your UNO shelf which I can do tonight.

message 49: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice | 21 comments I can't believe the first week has gone already... It's been a very full week work-wise, so my reading has been going very slowly. Basically all my time has gone into thesis-writing and I ended up just crashing at night. I can't wait to hand it in this week and finally get my reading time back!

message 50: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments This week has gone so quickly ! Just finished Dagger and the Flame :)
planning a reading afternoon today too

happy reading all!
