Looking at the topic, which is from the latest poll of members, made me realise how many books and whole series just focus on horses. Not even a dog or cat.
Horse lovers generally are animal lovers, so let's put our heads together and come up with some great titles.
The Silver Brumby by Elyne Mitchell has the wildlife of the Australian outback and mountains.
Wish You Were Here by Rita Mae Brown starts a series set in Virginia with cats and dogs as sleuths, and a good number of riding horses.
The January Queen by Joyce Stranger is set on a farm.

The Roan Colt of Yamboorah by Reginald Ottley has horses and dogs. And some other outback animals and birds too.
The Colt at Taparoo by Elyne Mitchell is about a horse used for cattle work.
Horses used for cattle work on an American ranch, and ponies and cattle on an Irish dairy farm, in my book.
Rodeo Finn by Clare O'Beara

More by Rita Mae Brown. The Sister Jane series of mysteries features horses along with foxes and hounds in tales about hunting. These Virginia hunts end with the fox escaping.

This book for adult readers has two mustangs contrasted with two Scottish working horses of an earlier era. There is a lamb which is living along with the mustangs and thinks it is part of their herd.
The Loneliness of Horses by Andrea Thalasinos.

The Valley of Horses by Jean M. Auel is a prehistory book for adults. Horses were among the many Ice Age animals that were hunted by humans.

Hi Tammie, that is a lovely thought.
Forget Me Knot
I understand you are in Australia, so the cost of postage might be high. If it's on Kindle, I'm finding that nowadays I can't take a gifted Kindle book unless it's from the UK store. Amazon just won't let me download it.
I suggest you could use some of the free days on Kindle Unlimited. We have a thread to announce special offers and freebies, so readers would know to grab it.
This can only be done if your book is not available from other outlets than Amazon.

This is a very old book which probably can't be found. I'm placing it here in case I need to re-read. This is about a horse running loose on an African savannah with a herd of zebras.

Vicki Lewis Thompson writes modern western-based stories (among others) which feature cattle, trained rodeo horses, rodeo bulls and family dogs. These are books for adult readers. One I enjoyed recently...

There are plenty of other modern western-based stories, I found this one free on Amazon today. This one claims to be family-friendly. There are lovely horses on the cover of the new edition, which hasn't made it to GR yet, and a cowboy probably has cattle, so I'll give it a try.

I've been reading the Eventing series which so far, has had horses and a beagle named Marcus.

I just read an Amish romance. The Amish community don't like using modern machinery, so the story includes a buggy horse called Pilot. There is also a small farm dog which is the pet of a boy called Jonah, and other farms have dogs too. This particular story is more about apple trees than horses, but the people could not get around without the horses. They story is suitable for any age over 12.

Nearly time to complete the challenge! Last suggestions, last pages to turn?
I got a good tally but mainly I was reading the books anyway. Sometimes I have to go out of my way to find one that fits.

You can pick how many books you would like to read.
You will be asked which shelf the books to read are on. If you say horse and you do not have a horse bookshelf, Goodreads will put one in to your personal list of shelves.
When you complete a read you have placed on that shelf, Goodreads sees the progress.
Now the challenge registers that you have read some of the books.
Tell us your titles in this thread.
Authors are allowed to mention their own suitable books, as they could read their own books for this challenge.
Series are allowed too.
Have fun!
