I've been a bit of a foodie geek for a long time, watching Food Network and other cooking competition shows, collecting cookbooks and even getting signed copies when I am able to watch a cooking demonstration by a well known chef. It only makes sense that I would read a chef's memoir.
Marcus Samuelsson seemed to be a superb choice of memoir to read as he has had quite an interesting life. Marcus was a child in Ethiopia who lost his mother from tuberculosis and was subsequently adopted by a Swedish couple. In high school he decided to go in a vocational track and learn to be a chef.
He was already quite interested in food learning to cook from his Swedish grandmother, but as he trained he tried to absorb every lesson and work diligently as his father had taught him.
I enjoyed finding out about his personality and his journey to where he is at today.
