Marianne Petit | 5 comments When it comes to a historical , what time period do you like? I am getting tired of regencies but I’m starting to think I am the only one since that’s what pub. houses are picking up. All the American westerns I find are self published. What are your thoughts?

Alice | 6434 comments I like 1900- 1950 a lot. Lots of changes during that period

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 1039 comments I love the late Sharon Kay Penman medieval historical fiction. My favorite is The Sunne in Splendour.

You mentioned historical fiction westerns. 2 favorite authors have written award winning westerns:

The Lonesome Dove series Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Doc and the sequel Epitaph by Mary Doria Russell.

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 1039 comments Also if you like historical mysteries series I've read these and highly recommend:

Murder by Misrule Francis Bacon series set in London during the reign of Elizabeth I by Anna Castle

A Famine of Horses Sir Robert Carey series also set during reign of Elizabeth I but mostly set on Northern England/Southern Scotland border by P.F. Chisholm.

A Few Right Thinking Men Rowland Sinclair series set in 1930's Australia by Sulari Gentill.

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 1039 comments Also A Rising Man set in 1920's India by Abir Mukherjee.
