Though we’d planned to read the Fatal series spinoff as our next group read, interest has diminished. Let’s begin the nominations for one where there’s more consensus.

Nominations are now open to recommend a series. It should be from the Mystery/Suspense/Thriller genre or any one of its many sub genres. We will read one book a month and the series should have four or more books, including novellas.

Please include the series and author names with your nomination. Links to the series list on Goodreads are helpful but optional. Each member may recommend up to three series.

Nominations will close at midnight EST on May 15 and we will open the next day. Depending on the number of nominations, we may have more than one round of voting.

Let the nominations begin!

Mercy and Elvis series by Paula Munier

A Borrowing of Bones (Mercy & Elvis Mysteries, #1) by Paula Munier
I forgot. There are five books now with a new one coming later this year.

First in a gripping new mystery series about a retired MP and her bomb-sniffing dog who become embroiled in an investigation in the beautiful Vermont wilderness
It may be the Fourth of July weekend, but for retired soldiers Mercy Carr and Belgian Malinois Elvis, it’s just another walk in the remote Lye Brook Wilderness—until the former bomb-sniffing dog alerts to explosives and they find a squalling baby abandoned near a shallow grave filled with what appear to be human bones. U.S. Game Warden Troy Warner and his search-and rescue Newfoundland Susie Bear respond to Mercy’s 911 call, and the four must work together to track down a missing mother, solve a cold-case murder, and keep the citizens of Vermont safe on potentially the most incendiary Independence Day since the American Revolution.

A Borrowing of Bones is full of complex twists and real details about search-and-rescue dog training that Paula learned through the training of her own dog. With its canine sidekicks and rich, dramatic story, this debut will be a must-have for mystery fans.

Shelby (whiskeygirl75) | 15 comments Jonetta I believe the Colimbia River series is a spin off of her Callahan & McLane series, not sure if it should be read first.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Shelby, some of us read the Callahan and McLane series a few years ago.

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 189 comments I nominate The Lincoln Lawyer series. The Lincoln Lawyer. There are 8 books. They do relate to the Harry Bosch series but you don’t have to read those to enjoy this.

Alternatively we could do the Harry Bosch series. The Black Echo. There are 25 books in this series.

There is a lot of crossover between the two series after the first couple of books. I created a universal Bosch series list that shows the sequence.

FYI, Bosch was a series group read in another group a few years ago and we finished at book #20. The good news is that discussions were created for all those books. We can recreate the discussions for this group. It’s a wonderful series and we only stopped when we got up to date. FYI, it also connects with the Renée Ballard series, which is late in the series.

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 189 comments Was the group closely aligned with this one?

Personally I’d rather do the Lincoln Lawyer series even if it’s got some crossover.

However if that’s not okay, then how about the Reacher series? I’ve enjoyed the tv show and would like to read the books. There are 30 books in the series. Killing Floor

For a shorter series, there’s Rizzoli & Isles The Surgeon. There are 13 books in this series.

For the Reacher series a good question is if the group members would prefer the publication or chronological order.

The rules say three recommendations per person. Would anyone mind if I recommended one more?

message 18: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments No I don''t mind. I always find good series from your recommendations even if we don't read them as group

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1131 comments Some great nominations in this thread.
I've read Bosch (in the other group as Jonetta says), Mercy & Elvis (fabulous series), and Rizzoli and Isles (also excellent - nothing like the TV show).

I nominate
Costa & Quinn by Alison Brennan
DC Morgan by Clare McKintosh

message 26: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinmy) | 1390 comments I see a couple series that I want to read have already been nominated. I've been trying to narrow down which mystery/suspense series that I want to nominate. So, I'd like to nominate:

- Rockton series (AKA: Casey Duncan) by Kelley Armstrong (7 books)
https://www.goodreads.com/series/1648...

- A Rip Through Time series by Kelley Armstrong (4 books, 2 novellas) - (A modern-day homicide detective finds herself in Victorian Scotland—in an unfamiliar body—with a killer on the loose.)

Nominations are closed!

Voting is now open to select our next series to read as a group. The poll will close on May 26 and we will most likely have a final poll for the top five.
