We have a date for next readathon: Our next readathon will be July 18/19, 2025. We will start 8pm EDT, Friday, July 18th and we will finish reading at 8pm EDT, Saturday, July 19th.

Here is a new pre-readathon challenge. Our summer reverse readathon is more laid back, so I wanted to make sure you could get the laid back vibe with the different hints.

Remember this challenge is to help you have fun. Participate as much or as little as you would like. Also make sure to use these hints as jumping off points, to not be worried at all about if your book fits the challenge. I will always agree with you. Enjoy!

Challenge: Summertime Enjoyment

🌻Level One🌻 Some Basics
1. Summer Vacations--Read about road trips, train travel, travel adventures, which could lead to travel mishaps/crimes/mysteries. Or read about family reunions where the gossip is spicy and the food delicious and abundant.

2. Natural Beauty Scenes--Read about beach, shore, parks, recreational areas. Fiction and nonfiction books activities work here such as surfing or picnicking or camping books. Thinking of mysteries, science, adventure, memoirs, eco novels.

3. Summer Projects-- Read about arts and crafts, home improvements, social and sociopolitical activities such as volunteer to organize or participate in an event. Memoirs about prison librarian or sociopolitical leader organizing event or movement--or humorous book about how an event was going well until a monster crashed the party and everything went wild.

4. Seasonal Events/Celebrations---Read about a July 4th celebrations such as watching fireworks or having a backyard BBQ. Read about participating in a fishing or swimming contests or birding event. I am thinking murder or crime at an event or celebration might be fun or maybe a adventure or misadventure might be equally fun.

5. Seasonal Sports/Activities--Read about surfing, mountain climbing, gardening, more. Thinking of action-filled novels, mountain climbing memoirs and mysteries, poisonous gardens, animals in gardens, maybe stories about gnomes and other garden creatures.

😎Level Two😎 Something a bit Extra?

Extra.1. Heat Up -- Read a romance novel or a science/science fiction book about global warming or fevers/viruses/infections. Or just anything that warms your heart or spirit.

Extra 2. Cool Down--Read about swimming parties or stays at a lake house or time in the tree house or anywhere else one may cool down or chill out emotionally, spiritually, physically. Read a book that brings you a little bit more peace.
