This instalment has always stood out to me in the series — darker in tone to the previous books, but still full of the charm and wonder that makes Hogwarts feel like home. The time-turner subplot and the introduction of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin add real depth, and I still think the twist at the end is one of the most satisfying in the series. That said, on a re-read, some things felt a little more convenient than I remembered (the time travel logic, especially), and there were moments where I wished the pacing had lingered a bit more on emotional beats — especially with Harry's growing sense of identity and family. Still, this book holds up incredibly well. It's clever, atmospheric, and filled with moments that hit harder now that I’m older.

Robin P | 5742 comments This is my favorite of the series because of the psychological truths. The worst prisons are those we construct by going over and over bad things in our heads. And the way Harry thinks his father helped him late in the book, but it was really himself. I think that was because of the Time Turner. I always identified with Hermione and how she wanted more time so she could take all the classes. Just think how many more books I could read that way!

I am unhappy with how this author has used her fame and wealth on a personal crusade of intolerance. I noticed a bookstore in San Francisco stopped selling her books and encouraged people to buy used copies instead. This is a common issue, separating a writer/actor/musician from their work. For me, I am addicted to the series written by her under the name of Robert Galbraith and I won’t be giving them up.
