Nikki was unaware of the furor around the Innocence Project’s latest case to free Mark Todd, the man convicted of killing her parents. Were you curious as to why she hadn’t been contacted since her eyewitness testimony was crucial to the original prosecution?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I wasn't sure if the Innocence Project had just took the case, or if they had been working it for a while. I guess I assumed they had just started working on the case and hadn't got around to re-interviewing the witnesses.

I wondered about it but wasn't sure of the protocol. It created more drama for the story that she learns about it after returning to Stillwater.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with both of you. I didn't know the protocol, but I also wondered if Nikki ignored everything related to Mark Todd. He was part of the past she kept hidden.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 104 comments As you guys pointed out, not sure about the protocol. But I was a bit surprised she hadn't heard anything. As an investigator you would think this type of news would pique her interest.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments Not sure we were ever told how long the Innocence Project was working on reopening the Todd case. could've not been on her radar since it seemed like she was working on the "Frost' case.

Moondance (moondance120) | 23 comments I thought it was standard protocol to inform victims when the prisoner is being considered for a retrial or appeal.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments I found it strange that the DA hadn't been in touch with her. That said, Nikki was very busy repressing anything that had to do with the case, so she might have been ignoring the news reports.

I got the feeling that the DA was waiting as long as he could before letting Nikki know because the new evidence was damning. At a minimum, Hardin should have contacted her. Made me suspicious of him at the onset.
