What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book around 2012-2016 in Australia. I think the cover was a green field, blue sky and a dog but I can't be certain.
The story jumped around POV's from a boy and his family dog, a young boy and a stray puppy. I think the family dog boy was called Charlie? *Someone* was called Charlie I'm pretty sure. The blurb had all three of their names and a brief description of their journey's.
SPOILERS AHEAD:




The family dog POV was I think the younger of two son's (the older son was the one who actually "owned" the dog I think) and the POV ended because the family dog was shot by a neighbour or something and died. The young boy POV is the son of the boy in the first family and they end up adopting the stray dog to tie it all together. It jumps across timelines through the POV's to do this.
I can't remember much about the boy's POV but the stray dog had a sister dog who he travelled with for a while, they were both temporarily blind after birth and got separated from their mother. The stray dog family found a barn to hide out in except they had to hide from the family who owned it. I think they had a daughter who found them and helped them for a bit before that led to them being discovered and them being chased out. There was also an owl or something in the barn, maybe a cat they had to compete for the space against? The stray ends up being found by the boy (I'm vaguely remembering a park and a swing set but could be wrong) and it is revealed that the dad was the first family dog POV.

What breed of dogs, do you recall? Or breed type the dogs looked like?

Cover description reminds me of Jack Pepper by Sarah Lean, obtained via Scholastic. Haven't read so don't know if exact match.

I'm on the phone web browser and don't know how goodreads forums work so I can't figure out how to reply directly or if that's an option but I'm fairly confident they were golden retrievers!! It definitely wasn't Jack Pepper unfortunately
