When Arthur Less' young lover becomes engaged to another (rich) man, he decides to avoid attending the wedding by accepting a handful of literary engagements all over the world, hoping to distract himself from not only the wedding but also his approaching and dreaded 50th birthday.
I thought this was going to be a humorous gay romance, but I was disappointed to find it less entertaining than I expected. Arthur is a character that I just could not get into - so much angst from beginning to end! If you like flowery descriptive prose of travel destinations, you would enjoy this one. There was enough humor but it was rather morose, and Arthur was just too gloomy for my taste, even though his experiences were entertaining. Good enough for 3 stars but just not my cup of tea.
