Jonathan Harbour (jsharbour) I'm reading Methuselah's Children simultaneously with Friday (for the 3rd time), and was surprised to find a loose Lazarus Long reference in Friday--a planet called Olympia where the "supermen" went. That places Friday squarely in the time period of the Long series, and thus, I think it should be included in that series. The connection is a loose reference.

Here's the reference from chapter 24:

“Dr. Baldwin said something about that. What’s so poisonous about Olympia? I don’t recall a colony world named that.”

“You don’t? No, I guess you’re too young. That’s where those self-styled supermen went. No real point in warning you against it, however; the corporation doesn’t run ships there. Dear, you are running up a fancy comm bill.”

What do you think? That puts Friday quite a while after the events in Methuselah's Children where Long steals an interstellar colony ship to haul away the Howard Families from persecution. Time frame is difficult, though. Could be 20 years, could be a century. That does make Marjorie Friday Baldwin a contemporary of Lazarus Long, though.

How old would you say Friday is? She spent 7 years paying her way into the NZ family and was a highly experienced courier before that so I propose late 30s. The comment "you're too young" is useful.
