What did everyone think of the Demon Accords series? I've also been wanting to read it for a while and was thinking of starting it soon.

message 11: by Mark (new)

Mark | 48 comments Try The Severed Streets (Shadow Police, #2) by Paul Cornell by Paul Cornell more darker in style than the Alex Verus and peter grant series you have read.

message 12: by Vera (new)

Vera M. I'll recommend the Underworld Detection Agency series by Hannah Jayne. It starts with Under Wraps.
Under Wraps by Hannah Jayne

I enjoy the series quite a bit. It's on my all time top 5 series list. The author does a really good job of world and character building throughout the series. I personally think the books are page turners, once you start you don't want to stop. Give the 1st book a try, if you like it you'll love the rest.

message 14: by Tony (new)

Tony | 200 comments You might also take a look at:

Trial By Fire (Covencraft Book 1) by Margarita Gakis . Book 3 came out yesterday.

message 15: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 2 comments You might try the Urban Shaman series by C.E. Murphy or The Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep. Both series focus on a female protagonist but have strong male supporting characters. I will say for the Estep series the third book is where the characters start to shine.. The Urban Shaman series on the other hand has a great dynamic of growing protagonist foiled against 2 male leads of by-the-books logic versus adventurous seen-it-all war vet. And while both have an aspect of romance that develops throughout the series, I found them to be less central to the writing when compared to the Kate Daniels' or Mercedes Thompson series.

message 16: by Troy (new)

Troy Cornford | 7 comments Elemental Assassin series looks cool thanks!

message 17: by Tammy "Z Girl" (new)

Tammy "Z Girl" | 1 comments Love the Elemental Assassin Series! I don't think I saw these:

Jill Kismet Series - Llilith Saintcrow
Dark Days Series - Jocelynn Drake
October Daye Series - Seanan McGuire
Signs of the Zodiac Series - Vicki Pettersson
Rune Alexander Series - Laken Cane

I LOVE all of these! :-)

Happy Reading!!

message 18: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 2 comments Troy, hope you enjoy the Elemental Assassin series and the October Date series Tammy brought up is another one that might appeal since the romantic plot themes drive the series' plot arc less than the overall role of Toby as an investigator for various other characters. Unlike the Assassin series this heroine is more of an underdog in the plotlines. I enjoy that series as well but find I have to be in the right mood. The Assassin series has a lot more humor and snark to the character interactions while the October Daye series has superior world building and a greater diversity of characters in each book.

Tasula | 9 comments Vampire Empire is pretty good but leans toward YA.
I like most of the authors on your original list, so maybe you would like some of my favorites UF books where romance/relationships is NOT the focus, in case they were not already mentioned or in your list. The Queen of Swords (djamilathequeenofswords) | 2 comments This is a very old thread (but giving it an UP as it is still a treasure. Certainly to me as I found, to my surprise, a few series I haven't read or bought to read yet.)

OP, and perhaps others, I have suggestions of my own that could fit your TBR:
1 Stephen Blackmoore, Eric Carter series
2 David Bussell/M.V. Stott: Uncanny Kindom and then specifically the Dark Lakes and Spectral Detective series in that universe.
3. Drew Hayes, Fred the Vampire Accountant (yes there is a romance, but it isn't THE story).
4. I liked the Super Powereds by Hayes as well + follow-up Corpies. Officially the first is between YA-NA, but it doesn't read like it.
5. Perhaps the Black Hat Bureau by Hailey Edwards, though there is a love interest.
6. If you liked Kate Daniels, you might enjoy The Edge and the Sweeper series too.
7. Sherrilynn Kenyon - Deadman's Cross ( it has several appearances from characters from her other series that do have a core romance. But you could try to see if that is annoying if they're strangers. The series is great and not lovey dovey).

Then a few that i've bought, but not read yet:
8. Junkyard Druid (a.k.a Colin McCool series) by MD Massey is said to be in the league of the Dresden Files.
9. I've heard that Daniel Jose Older: Bones Street Rumba and
10. Cal Leandros by Rob Thurman are also great. Like the Eric Carter series they are a dark(er) UF.

OP, can you let us know which ones you have read in the meantime and which series you'd recommend? While I can enjoy a good love interest (though I then want the ones as in Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson or Night Huntress - where it isn't the main part and the lover is also badass), there are awesome UF SERIES without. Plus there were a few I didn't know yet.
