Rachel | 310 comments I'm not going to set a goal but just keep track of everything I read in 2010. I'd like to know what my total is at the end of the year and sometimes I add books in my read list that I read a while ago and don't remember exactly when so i just use the default date:

1. Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman (started 12/26/09-finished 1/2/10)

Kandice I think Scooby Doo too! Are you a Velma or a Daphne?

I hadn't realized you finished Watchmen.

I can't figure out why it took me longer to read this collection of short stories than to read Under The Dome which is almost 3 times longer. January's been a slow month reading wise.

message 11: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I've read half of the books you've chosen so far, and really loved both of them. Look at it as quality, not quantity!

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments yeah i am, i think i'm just frustrated by everything else butting into my reading time! oh wait-that means I have a life in 2010 :)

message 14: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I saw on my update feed that not only do you have a new boyfriend, but he's cool enough to give you Zombieland for your anniversary! Score.:)

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments Yes, he is rather awesome...and deserves gifts himself...He also bought me something for Valentine's day but he said that'll probably just make me laugh. Men need to be easier to shop for! hehe or I just need to get out more.

message 16: by Kandice (new)

Kandice As far as gifts go, women definitely seem easier to please. Zombieland made me laugh right out of my seat at the theatre, so I can't imagine what he has in store for Valentine's. Sounds like a keeper;)

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments especially valentine's day gifts when you've been dating less than a month. I'd be happy with flowers, chocolates and stuffed animals but those are so girl oriented.

message 19: by Liz (new)

Liz I love your thread title, Rachel! Also, my boyfriend totally know what we're getting each other for Valentine's Day so we both know we'll wind up with something we'll enjoy, hahaha.

message 20: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments Thanks Liz! Yeah, I have no clue what to get my boyfriend so i'm buying dinner :)

message 21: by Liz (new)

Liz Good plan! On a note actually related to books, what did you think of Anansi Boys and Watchmen?

message 22: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments Anansi Boys is funny and entertaining but I kind of expected it to be darker. Watchmen was pretty good, interesting how Moore weaves all this other stuff like fake news articles and stuff into the main plot. I just found out that my library has a graphic novel discussion group and is discussing Watchmen on 3/22.

Carol Rachel how do you like Joe Hill's books? I thought I might give one a try, if he is not to strange, like his Pops. I am not into horror much, but are Hill's books to bizarre?

message 34: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments If you want to read Joe Hill but don't really like horror, I'd start with 20th Century Ghosts, his collection of short stories. The first story is straight horror but then a lot of the stories are just fantastical stories about relationships.

message 35: by Carol (new)

Carol Thanks, so his others are too much like daddy's huh? Thanks for the heads up.

message 36: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments Nah, Heart Shaped was pretty scary though, Horns is more bizarro/Stand by me-esque/suspense so you could try Horns too.

message 37: by Carol (new)

message 38: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I think HSB was scary in a very "dirty" way. Not sexually dirty, but gritty dirty. Not horror, though.
