adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments I finally finished a book. For the letter M, I read My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler. It's a collection of essays about one-night stands. Each chapter reads very much like a column, and I think I would have preferred reading it in a more disjointed manner since the chapters weren't connected. Some sentences would make me actually laugh out loud, while at other times, I was just rushing to get to the next chapter.

1 book down, 25 to go, I guess!

Hey, it starts with a letter, so it's fair game ;) I can always consider adding some of Maggie's books when December comes and I get desperate!

message 12: by adrienna (last edited Jun 10, 2010 09:55AM) (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments Ten down... I was at a standstill for a while, but maybe I'm back in action?

A: Angel Face: The Real Story of Student Killer Amanda Knox by Barbie Latza Nadeau
B: The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee by Sarah Silverman
D: Diary of an Exercise Addict by Peach Friedman
F: Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

H: Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress by Susan Jane Gilman
J: The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler
M: My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands by Chelsea Handler
P: Push by Sapphire
T: Triumph by Daniel Gilpin

ETA: I just realized I had an error (I put The Bedwetter under S instead of B). This error makes me happy because I'm currently reading an S (The Simple Dollar). I'm also reading a C. I think I'm going to have to start paying closer attention to the titles of what I'm reading. PATHETIC.

I got that way toward the end of last year, when I only read books from authors of a certain letter -- since I read too many M authors early in the year. Nothing like compulsory voluntary reading.

message 18: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments I've hit a wall. I'm reading a W (Witch of Blackbird Pond), but I'm not as into it as I thought I'd be. I might do a series of books I read as a child. After Witch, maybe Are You There God? It's Me Margaret (although I already have an A) and then The Egypt game. I think I have a K (The Killer in Me) at the library, so that might get mixed in.

message 19: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 28 comments Mod
I thought I still had Are You There, God? but can't find it anywhere. And I loved The Egypt Game ... haven't thought of that book in years. I think that's a good next challenge for me...reread all those books I loved as a kid and see how they hold up.

message 20: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments It's a shame I already have a P. Apparently Pretty Little Liars is all I can read right now.

message 21: by Monica (new)

Monica | 6 comments Maggie gets me into this group and then takes off. I feel like I have to finish the alphabet this year. I have 10 letters to go. I recommend Zeitoun for Z if anyone needs that. Any suggestions for X. I was going to read Witch of Blackbird Pond also. I already have 2 "w" books though so that can wait.

message 22: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments Halfway done, but I'm struggling. I have a stack of books to return to the library because I can't get to them before they're due (newer releases so I can't renew - like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

B: The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee by Sarah Silverman
C: Commencement: A Novel by J. Courtney Sullivan

T: Triumph by Daniel Gilpin
W: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare

Maggie Downs | 5 comments I need to go back through my books and figure out which letters I still need. I´ve been reading like crazy, but I think it´s the same letters over and over again.

message 24: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (rooner) | 12 comments Monica, I'm planning to read one called "X-Indian Chronicles" by Thomas Yeahpau for my X. There are always X-Men graphic novels, too, or novels relating to the X-Files TV show. Or non-fiction about X-rays. My library also shows a couple of the "new" Hardy Boys books that start with an X: "The X-Factor" and "X-plosion". There's also one that, as a Gen Xer I'd like to read someday: "X Saves the World: How Generation X Got the Shaft but Can Still Keep Everything from Sucking". :-)

message 25: by adrienna (new)

message 26: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments I just finished two books - but both were letters I already had! I have two books I'm working on that'll count, at least.

message 27: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments I have basically a quarter to finish this! It's not looking good... I'm working on a U right now. I think I'm going to have to start choosing my books based on their titles.

message 28: by adrienna (last edited Oct 04, 2010 07:38AM) (new)

message 29: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments The Visibles is #16. Unfortunately of the books queued up, I think only one counts (it's funny, actually -- I have three books on deck for S). Seriously, you have to be kidding me: A Single Man, Sickened: The Memoir of a Munchausen by Proxy Childhood, and Strange as This Weather May Seem -- glad I returned Spent without reading it! Well, one of those S books should stick!

I have to read the Hunger Games this week because it's due back next Friday and can't be renewed, and I have to read the next Pretty Little Liars book (it's a K book) in the next two weeks because it can't be renewed.

I've been rereading The Egypt Game, and once I finish, I'm guessing it'll have to go here. I need to make a major effort if I want to complete this!

message 35: by adrienna (new)

adrienna (adrifrazer) | 33 comments I don't know! I feel like I should finish 2010, although I still have 6 and a half books left!

I liked having a plan for reading...

message 36: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 28 comments Mod
I'm thinking of choosing a classic a month (or perhaps 11 classics in 2011 -- ones that I have but haven't read, like Anna Karenina, or Tess of D'Urbervilles or Middlemarch). The smaller number makes me think I can accomplish it, since they tend to be longer and "meatier" than the other fiction I usually read. Plus, we're almost halfway through January, so I'm already behind!
