I think we need more cookbook threads so let's talk about your favorite baking books here! Wheeeeee!

message 2: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Well, many of my cookbooks have excellent baking recipes as part of the book.

As far as standalone baking books:

The Joy of Vegan Baking: The Compassionate Cooks' Recipes for Sweets and Traditional Treats by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau

and

Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: 75 Dairy-Free Recipes for Cupcakes that Rule by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.

The latter pair also have a cookie book out but I don't like it quite as much as the cupcake one: Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar: 100 Dairy-Free Recipes for Everyone's Favorite Treats.

Laurie, I love the sound of Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey: Desserts for the Serious Sweet Tooth! Are the recipes as good as the title?

message 5: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (pinkalpacagmailcom) Yes! I've made 4 or 5 of them and they really are the most decadent, eyes-rolling-back desserts I've ever tasted!
Recently I made a simple whole-wheat chocolate cake from the King Arthur book & from the Sticky, Chewy book I made a Whiskey-Walnut sauce to drizzle over it. Delish!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Laurie, Oh, I love the King Arthur Flour company. I didn't know about the cookbooks.

Laurie (pinkalpacagmailcom) Not only are the books huge (each one is about 3 pounds), but there is a lot of information to read, which I love in a cookbook.

I too love when a cookbook is more than just a cookbook!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I also love lots of information and they get huge bonus points if they're humorous.

Kim (mrsnesbitt) | 47 comments My bible is "The Better Home and Gardens Cookbook". I have an aniversary edition and my mom still has hers from the 70's when she got married. Even though I write my own recipes, I use it for inpiration and for all of the tips.

My other faves are mostly baking books, like the "Rosie's Bakery butter filled jam packed" ( I can't for the life of me think of the rest!) and of course the recipes from murder mysteries, especially Joanne Fluke.

Brenda | 286 comments They all sound so good. I need to do more exploring in the baking department. I really do enjoy cooking.

Uh-oh, he is the section I find a weakness - FOOD. I love to cook and bake. At one point I thought about studying to be a chef.

I agree, Kim, BHGC. Also the Frugal Gourmet. I enjoy reading his books - not just his recipes.
