message 1: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (last edited Mar 23, 2010 04:55AM) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Went to the library at the University the next town over and picked up:

The Thief
Wintergirls
Going Bovine
Thirteen Reasons Why <-- Reading now
Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac

I was so excited to see all of the new books they got in. I've got to read these fast if I want to reach my goal by the end of the year.

On a side note, the girl checking me out was reading a Twilight book. She had the cover off and overtly turned the book so I couldn't see the title. I asked her which Twilight book it was. She seemed surprised and said "oh, you can tell it's one of them?". LOL. She seemed really reluctant to tell me it was Breaking Dawn. Poor child. Someone must have teased her, because I have no idea why she'd be embarrassed to let people know she was reading it. I should have told her that she shouldn't read it, Bella dies in the end and Edward kills Jacob then himself. Har!

Gee, I have no idea why someone wouldn't want to admit to reading a Twilight book. Can you imagine that, HEIDI??? Haha!

I loved Thirteen Reasons Why. Can't want to see what you think of it, Peep.

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 56 comments Haha. I liked the Twilight books. It's the movies that ruined the books for me.

message 4: by Chachic (last edited Mar 22, 2010 07:47AM) (new)

Chachic I'm about to read Tamora Pierce's Protector of Small series:

First Test (Protector of the Small, #1) by Tamora Pierce Page (Protector of the Small, #2) by Tamora Pierce Squire (Protector of the Small, #3) by Tamora Pierce Lady Knight (Protector of the Small, #4) by Tamora Pierce

And then Esther Friesner's books:
Nobody's Princess by Esther M. Friesner Nobody's Prize by Esther M. Friesner Sphinx's Princess by Esther M. Friesner

Other YA books on my TBR list:
Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

S.S. (ssrice) | 75 comments I will read
Thirteen Reasons Why
as soon as my daughter finishes it.
CHACHIC: LOVE your recommendations; the covers are intriguing.

message 6: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Chachic - I have not heard of any of those books! Just when I thought I was getting a handle on my tbr list, I keep finding WAY more books you all are reading. Urg!

message 7: by Heidi (last edited Mar 22, 2010 08:05AM) (new)

Heidi Peep & Shannen - I think someone should be embarrassed to read Breaking Dawn when they are surrounded by actual good books. Although I will admit that if anything gets people to read, it is a good thing (see - a compromise:) Also, I started Thirteen Reasons Why a couple months ago, but never finished it. I'll wait to see if Peep likes it too, and may give it a second try (see I can admit I MAY be wrong!) Peep -I plan to read the Thief soon too.

message 8: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I just finished Shadow Souls (The Vampire Diaries The Return, #2) by L.J. Smith . If any of you were thinking about reading it, don't waste your time. It was only marginally better than NIGHTFALL. Now reading Hourglass (Evernight, #3) by Claudia Gray . Pretty good, so far. I love this series.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) No worries ladies, I will go out of my way to let you know how how I feel about these books!

message 10: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ok. The plan for now is as follows for my next three books to "read" (I have 3 more to listen to on audio!). 1. Life As We Knew It (Moon, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer , 2. The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa , and 3. The Thief (The Queen's Thief, #1) by Megan Whalen Turner .

message 11: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Aweomse list Heidi! And Melodie I hated Vampire Diaries too. I wish I would have seen your post before I read it. Hehe.

message 12: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bluemoon. Gone was good (but heavy!). I narrowed my list down, but I have no faith it will stay that way because I didn't even have two of those books in my tbr pile (thief and iron king) as of last week! This group is killing me with all the suggestions, but killing me in a good way :)

Pssst...THE THIEF cough cough. (; And then GONE. Both of those are wonderful! I didn't like the James Patterson as much though.

Oh my..I ENVY YOU!!! Those are all favorites of mine and how I wish I could erase my reading experience and enjoy them all over again. Have fun reading!!

I love all Tamora Pierce books =) Protector of the Small is pretty good but it's not my favorite. But still, that's just me. Enjoy reading!!!

Wow all these good books to be read lately... :D

message 14: by Chachic (new)

Chachic S.S. and Heidi, I'm exciting to read these books! I've been wanting to read Tamora Pierce's Protector of Small series and Esther Friesner's books for the longest time. If you haven't read any of Tamora Pierce's books, I recommend you start with the Alanna series. :)

And yes to book pushing! More people reading The Thief woohoo!

message 15: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Amy, I want to read Iron King! It seems real interesting. But I haven't seen it around here (here being Manila).

Chachic Bluemoon wrote: "argh! you guys are making me want to scream out! (in a good way) There's sooooo many books I want to read. You guys are suggesting so many great books. I don't even know where to begin anymore. hah..."

I used to feel that way too! I like reading the blogs of book bloggers but it's so frustrating because I keep adding more books to my wish list. "So many books, so little time" indeed!

message 17: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I keep saying that I should stop buying books and stop adding more books in my wish list until I make a huge dent in my TBR pile but I just can't help myself. :(

message 18: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I know, me too! My friend was asking before if I had to choose between books and food, what would I choose. I really couldn't decide.

message 19: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) If you haven't done so yet, you MUST read the Thief. I need everybody to read it so we can talk about it!!

I loved it by the way. Went from 2 stars to 5 real quick!

Yes, I'm glad we have another fan to help with the book pushing. This is really an awesome series.

Wow! I don't what I'll do in that kind of situation. I guess it'll depend on how hungry I am and on how much I want that book.

I'm about a 1/4 of the way through this!

message 23: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Blue moon you crack me up - book or food! That reminds me of when I was in college, hum...should I use this money to go out tonight or to gas up my car?? Let's just say I rode on fumes A LOT.

message 24: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Do any of you read the Maximum Ride books?? I've never read them, but the new one, FANG, keeps catching my eye every time I'm around a bookstore or the book section of Walmart or Target. I'm wondering if I could just read it and if it would make sense to me since I haven't read any others.

message 25: by Jaimie (last edited Mar 23, 2010 10:17AM) (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I liked The Angel Eperiment and the rest of the Maximum Ride novels. They are really quick reads - the chapters are like 2 pages long. They are not my favorite series but they were pretty decent. I would say they are like 8th grade and up. I would suggest you read them in order or you might be lost.

message 26: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Next I am reading Gone by Lisa McMann and then The Nanny Returns and then The Iron King.

message 27: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jamie - I should be able to pick up the Iron King from the library this week (it is on hold) - hope to start it soon. Why are their two YA books named Gone??? Ugh. Now I have to clarify which author I am talking when I reference it. I have not read that Gone - but just read the other one.

message 28: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I know right? This Gone is the third in the Wake trilogy. I'm pretty excited about the Iron King.

message 29: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 56 comments Heidi and Jaimie, the Iron King is SO good. I loved it, and can't wait for the next book.

I'm reading Fragile Eternity right now.

message 30: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) | 29 comments There's a Gone by Michael Grant that's a dystopian- that was the one I enjoyed a lot! I haven't read Lisa McMann's Gone yet but apparently it received mixed reviews? =)

message 31: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I'm currently reading Hourglass (Evernight, #3) by Claudia Gray . Plan to read Eternal (Tantalize, #2) by Cynthia Leitich Smith next.

message 32: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I really liked the first book in the trilogy, Wake, and thought Fade was a bit better than okay. I didn't want to spend the $ on the last one if there was some kind of pattern of decline going on so I waited until my library got it.

message 33: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jamie - I saw a lot of people were upset about Gone (by Lisa McMann) - they thought the quality went down hill. I think I am skipping that series. I will; however, be reading Hunger -- the second book in the other Gone series. Melodie are those vamp books????

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I went to the library today and picked up The Book Thief. I'm super excited about reading it. I'll keep you all updated on my progress.

message 35: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Bluemoon wrote: "hehehehe...yea, I second thought food and book. I really love food too (well good food anyways), but I guess I love books more."

Me too! That's my problem. I love good food too but I'll probably stick with books too if I had to make a choice.

message 36: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany wrote: "I went to the library today and picked up The Book Thief. I'm super excited about reading it. I'll keep you all updated on my progress."

Yes! Just to warn you - you have to get used to death as the narrator, but stick with it!

I figure you're asking about the one I'm reading and the one I plan to read next. HOURGLASS is a vamp book. It's the 3rd book in the Evernight series. ETERNAL isn't.

message 38: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ok. Thanks Melodie. I automatically skip looking up vamp books. I will look up Eternal to see what it is about.

message 39: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I'd offer to buy and ship to you out of States folks but I think by the time it reaches you it will already be in stock at your bookstores!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Thanks for the warning, Heidi... I plan on starting it tonight after work, and after I catch up on the episode of Lost I missed last night. I am a complete and total addict.

Love Tamora Pierce!!! <3

message 42: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ok. I keep seeing Tamora Pierce on here. I am trying my best to ignore these - BECAUSE I refused to add anymore books until I read at least 1-2 on my list. So stop it people, because you are really tempting me here :)

message 43: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments LOL @ Heidi! Me too! My TBR pile keeps getting bigger and bigger!

message 44: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments I've got to finish Queen of Sorceryfor my A-Z Title Challenge, then I get to read:
City of Bones,
Among the Free,
Bed of Roses,
Iron Kissed
and Fire

:-)

message 45: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Laura - I am almost done with Graceling, so let me know if you like Fire please: ) I did not like City of Bones, but I think I am in the minority here.

message 46: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I liked Fire - I thought it was a sequel but it's not. Just same world kind of thing.

message 47: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 56 comments I'm at a point right now where I'm wanting to re-read books. I've been writing reviews lately, and have re-read the Wicked Lovely series to write reviews, and also because Radiant Shadows will come out soon. Now I'm thinking I might want to re-read the Vampire Academy series. I was thinking about re-reading the House of Night series, but I'm not as motivated to do so.

Don't know. After Fragile Eternity, I'll have to take a look at my bookshelf and see what I want to do next.

message 48: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I thought Fire was a prequel???

message 49: by Laura Beth (new)

Laura Beth (tampabookworm) | 229 comments @Heidi - I loved Graceling! I am hoping Fire is as good! Will let you all know :-)

message 50: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) It happens before Graceling, but you could read them out of order and still not miss anything. Only one character from Graceling is featured in Fire, but he is certainly not the main character in the book. At least that's how I remember it.
