Tom, thanks for posting this in the Ice Cold discussion - I copied your post for this discussion thread (you helped me realize we needed a thread for the new TV series) Tom wrote:

Oh, I hadn't thought of that :-) and the book giveaway wasn't open to countries outside the US either Geez!

I'm thinking of switching from cable to satellite so maybe I'll be able to watch Rizzoli & Isles this summer, we'll see :-)

Raila, it may be broadcast on the internet after it appears on TNT first. The webcast might be available in Brazil.

Msgr. Daniel+

message 8: by Raíla (new)

Raíla (railasoares) | 22 comments Yeah... I hope so. It would be awesome if the "brazilian" TNT also broadcasted this here.

message 9: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Beegan (PadreDan) | 10 comments Also a possibility. Of course, it would probably be dubbed in Portuguese, where the net version would be in English. I hope you will be able to take your choice.

Raíla (railasoares) | 22 comments I had even forgotten about the dubbing! I really don't like it. Hm, better in English...

Tentatively, Rizzoli & Isles will premier on TNT July 12th!

message 12: by Tess (new)

Tess Gerritsen | 14 comments It's no longer tentative! It's definitely scheduled for July 12 at 10 PM (9 PM CT), right after The Closer. Hope you all like it!

Now, I've got to figure out how my new DVR works just in case I miss it - but the good news, with young children, I'm usually home in the evening. What time does that translate into for Mountain Standard Time? If it's after the kids' bedtime I'll try to watch it live :-)

Watch Rizzoli & Isles on TNT on Monday Nights beginning July 12th!

message 16: by comfort (new)

comfort I was directed to the TNT site by someone in one of my other groups to watch something else, so was totally surprised to see the trailer.

I am a bit disappointed that the actors do not look physically like the descriptions in the book- a wig or two? perhaps.

Nit picking I know but I hate what they have done to Eric on True Blood c/f book description.

Doesn't really matter as we probably won't get it here in Australia.

message 17: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Dougherty | 1 comments I just watched the new series that was sent to me in the mail. I thought it was fantastic. we really need something fresh and new and this is it. The characters Rizzoli and Isles are fresh new characters that we really need more of I thought it was fantastic and I can't wait for the series to start.

message 18: by MzDivaDawn (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I have my doubts, for some reason, that the series may not hold up to the books. Perhaps because the Women's Murder Club series (James Patterson) didn't transfer so well on tv. However, I do have it ready to tape on my DVR when it airs! I'm willing to give it a try!

message 19: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Tonight's the night. It is so great that it is being led in by The Closer. Here's hoping it is a big hit! I know I will be watching.

message 20: by comfort (new)

comfort so what did you all think???

message 21: by MzDivaDawn (last edited Jul 17, 2010 06:49AM) (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I thought it was good. I hope it lasts. The only difference was that the two main characters are friendly a bit faster than they were in the book series. Maura was a bit more reserved and took a while to loosen up. Other than that, it's a good pairing, and Lorraine Bracco as the over-protective, Italian mother to Jane is a good casting. It was a nice refresher on the Surgeon, I had forgotten some points about Hoyt and what had happened with the Apprentice.

message 22: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I liked it a lot Comfort. I've been a fan of Angie Harmon for a long time and was quite disappointed when the Women's Murder Club got canceled. I hope people watch it. I'm glad it has the Closer as a lead in.

message 23: by MzDivaDawn (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I saw the second episode from last night, I don't recall a Lieutenant Grant (the Donnie Wahlberg character) or the fact that Jane's brother, Frankie, is also a cop - can anyone enlighten me??

message 24: by Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl, Colorful Colorado (new)

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
Frankie was definitely not a cop in the written series but Tess let us know that would be a change with the TV series. Frankie would really have to get his act together to be police officer :-) If you follow Tess's blog, she shares some fun info.

Sheila (sheilaj) The character that is bothering me is Frost. Nothing like how I pictured him and the being sick at every crime scene is already wearing thin.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
I'll honestly admit, I haven't watched any of the show yet :-(

message 28: by MzDivaDawn (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I agree about Barry Frost - he isn't anything I pictured either, and I don't recall his being such a weakling either.

message 29: by Tess (new)

Tess Gerritsen | 14 comments The good news is ... it seems to be a hit. Both first week and second week's ratings have been incredibly huge.

True, the characters might not match the descriptions in the books. But that's what happens when stories get translated to screen. Also, I think that Frost will evolve as the series plays out.

message 30: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Hi Tess,

I'm so glad the show is a hit. What a lucky break that the Closer is a lead in for it. We love the Closer at our house and never miss it.

How much input do you get in the production of the series? Do you have anything to do with the writing of the screen plays or scripts? I'm curious how this all works.

I agree with the fact that the characters don't match the book. I guess that is ok,just look what a hit Bones is for Kathy Reichs and it is nothing like her books in my opinion.

Great news about it being a hit Tess! Congratulations

message 31: by MzDivaDawn (last edited Jul 22, 2010 04:27AM) (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments Funny how you mention Bones - I noticed that the character of Maura (on screen) reminded me a LOT of the character of Temperance on Bones, very literal minded when speaking to people, and usually talking above their heads, yet still in a humorous way.

message 32: by Tess (new)

Tess Gerritsen | 14 comments Sheila, the show has its own team of writers led by Janet Tamaro, the executive producer. I think they're doing a terrific job so far!

RIZZOLI & ISLES RENEWED FOR SECOND SEASON!!!

After being on the air for just three weeks, TNT’s new Rizzoli & Isles TV show has already been renewed for a second season.

Rizzoli & Isles follows tough detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) as she teams up with serious forensic pathologist Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Others in the cast include Bruce McGill, Lee Thompson Young, Lorraine Bracco, and Jordan Bridges.

The premiere garnered a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.55 million total viewers. Rizzoli & Isles also set a record for the debut of a commercial-supported cable series. Week two’s demo number was steady at a 1.5 but viewership fell to 7.27 million. In week three, the demo fell to a 1.3 and viewership took a big drop, to 6.55 million.

Despite this week’s big tumble, TNT has decided to give Rizzoli & Isles a second season. The cable channel has ordered 13 episodes for season two and they’re expected to air sometime in 2011.

The 10 episodes of season one are expected to finish airing in late September.

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I've been watching every episode, no longer comparing it to the book characters. I did like Donnie Wahlberg, hadn't realized he wasn't going to be a regular character, but just in for a few episodes. It's not a show I simply HAVE to see, but I do still have it in my DVR to watch each week. I do like the toughness of Jane/Angie Harmon and the quirky Maura, I think the casting was great on these two.

message 36: by MzDivaDawn (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments Well, how long can you go on having an affair with a priest? I guess it makes sense - he either leaves the church or has to deal with her moving on

message 37: by Sheila (last edited Aug 27, 2010 12:29PM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I agree and am so glad they haven't drug the priest/Maura affair over to the tv show. I have decided to just enjoy the show and not compare it to Tess' books. Less frustrating that way.

message 38: by MzDivaDawn (new)

MzDivaDawn | 8 comments I totally agree, Sheila!! I found I enjoy the show now. Once I let go of the comparisons (after the first few episodes) and just started viewing it "as it is," I really like the two main characters and the phenomenal casting job they did with them, and that's what keeps me watching.

IM curious..A. was Forst supposed to be black in the books? I may have missed that if so. B. What does everyone think about htem changing Isles's character?
C. TnT online is crazy to watch it. It gives like 12 minute parts, and not full episodes.

No, he wasn't black in the books and Jane's brother was not a police officer either :-)

message 41: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I always thought of Frost as an older white guy and Dustin is correct about Jane's brother not being a cop.

message 42: by Jenna, Moderator (new)

Jenna (bookworm12186) | 85 comments Mod
This is true. Doesnt she has 2 brothers in the books. and kinda dislikes them? Niether is a cop and yes also Frost I thought was an older white guy, I just reread The Surgeon and im pretty sure that hes an older married fellow, who is timid. I love that they made it a series but i relaly wish they wouldve kept it more similar. NCIS has a goth girl, why cant TNT? lol. Dont get me wrong i like that actress but they couldve dyed her hair black and made her alittle more ominous.

The show is cool though, even with the differences. Just as a book enthusiast I wish theyd stick closer to movies and shows , closer to the books.

I'm usually disappointed in any films adapted from books - they just seem to make too many changes.

It is a good show. And they are doing good so far, I think just some of the fans love your writing the way you wrote it, and are a little confused and just getting used to the changes. You r books are wonderful. Where do you get your inspiration? I too am a writer. Thriller-type. DO you do alot of research with cops etc for your books?

Emily (emahh1) | 28 comments My husband and I were talking about the cliff hanger ending and he said that they couldn't kill off Rizoli, because she is in the title, how shocking would it be if they did and it became a show about her BROTHER and Isles?? I know it won't happen, but I thought it'd be kinda neat and totally unexpected.
